IL Posto - Toronto
IL Posto
Description
Il Posto Nuovo offers a mixed dining experience based on recent reviews. While some customers were disappointed by noisy waitstaff, slow service, and a lackluster atmosphere, others praised the attentive service of Pedro and the high quality of the food. The restaurant seems to shine when it comes to dishes such as fish, pasta, and desserts like tiramisu. Despite some minor hiccups, Il Posto Nuovo is recommended for those seeking a quaint and romantic dining spot in the Yorkville area, where the owner and server strive to make guests feel welcome and satisfied.
Feedback
The entrance to the restaurant from Avenue St through the arcade to the patio offers a peaceful escape to a world of well-prepared food. I dined there twice during a group visit and the experience was excellent both during busy and quiet times (even when it briefly rained!). Our server, Pedro, initially seemed aloof but was actually very smooth and attentive. He provided excellent recommendations for wine and was accommodating to diners with food allergies.
We ordered from the set menu. The food was tasty, but the service was painfully slow. We opted to sit outside since the interior of the restaurant was empty. It was a pleasant experience dining in the open air, however, the surrounding stores in the courtyard appeared abandoned, which detracted from the romantic ambiance. Overall, I probably wouldn't dine at this restaurant again.
Il Posto Nuovo is definitely worth a visit, especially for Pedro who goes out of his way to make his customers feel welcome. The fish we ordered was expertly filleted and served with a delicious variety of cooked vegetables. I also tried the restaurant's pasta, which was served by Pedro in a lovely light red sauce - it was absolutely delicious. And if you have room for dessert, the tiramisu is fantastic.
We went to dine for a quiet romantic evening and were surprised by the waiter's hard shoes clip-clopping around the hardwood floors all evening - very noisy.Unfortunately the food experience was not up to expectations either, with a very acidic dressing on the roast beets and goats cheese that over-powered everything.. Main course was ho-hum but the cheesecake desert was fantastic. We then had to wait several minutes after the table was cleared and eventually had to ask for the bill. Not a great evening.
