I generally dine at Gusto once a week, but twice this week. The first night I had the steelhead trout, a fish dish that could not have been better. The trout came with grilled zucchini, fresh peas, sea asparagus, squid ink fregola, mint, garlic chips and chillies. All I could ask for. Night two. Calamari a con Gambari with wild shrimp, tomato sauce, chillies, marjoram and parsley. The dish was in fact a con. Leaving aside the fact that it arrived late, undercooked and cold, the dish was mediocre. The extra sauce that I asked for was thin, watery and tasteless. This in an Italian restaurant? Not worthy of Gusto. I should have sent it back but I was a bit rushed after it arrived so late. The staff there has always been great and that is a big plus for the restaurant. I will be back next week, despite my experience on night two. Every relationship has it's off nights.
... you want to go hungry. The kale (cavolo nero) salad for $14.99 is ridiculously small for an entrée. Its size would be best suited for an appetizer. Overall poor value.
Gusto is my go to for yummy food and a nice atmosphere. They also do great specials on the wine and it is always good!!Patio is awesome in summer !Always great service and tasty food options.Perfect for a date night ,birthday or just out with friends. Not really kid friendly as it can get super crowed and loud.
Me and my aunt decided to give this place a try for some lunch and it was a very good decision! The food here is amazing! We weren’t too hungry so we shared the margherita pizza and it was outstanding. The tomato sauce was so yummy I could eat it all by itself. The portion was very good for the price and you get quite a bit of food. Our server that we had, Emma L., Was nothing but friendly to us! She had such a positive vibe and made our lunch memorable and enjoyable. She was very attentive towards us and helped with some of our dietary preferences when choosing what to order. I am visiting from out of town and I will make sure I come back here next time I’m in the downtown Toronto area! Food: 5 Service: 5 Atmosphere: 5
We were glad to be seated quickly on a Saturday night with no reservations. We started with the house-made focaccia. The outside had a nice crisp and saltiness to it and the inside was fluffy. The Mafalde ai Funghi was phenomenal. Amazingly rich, earthy, and savory. The pasta had the perfect texture. We just wish there was more of it! The Cavatelli alla Vodka was velvety and flavorful, but not overpowering or heavy. The pasta was al dente. The pasta dishes were great, but we'd appreciate it even more if they came out a little hotter! We found them warm while other customers appeared to have steam coming from theirs. The Margherita pizza was okay. Nothing about it stood out or screamed extraordinary. However, the Funghi pizza was amazing. The variety of mushrooms worked together well with the cheeses, and the sweetness of the caramelized onions help balance it all out. Riley served us and he was great! Food: 4 Service: 5 Atmosphere: 5
