Description
**Dining at Gare de l’Est: A Mixed Bag of Experiences**
Gare de l’Est presents a vibrant atmosphere, marked by attentive service and a charming aesthetic. While many patrons rave about the exceptional service and standout dishes like the cassoulet, others lament recent declines in food quality and preparation, particularly related to classic recipes. Brunch offerings have received mixed reviews, with some meals arriving incorrectly and delays noted. While the ambiance and staff shine, consistency in food execution remains a concern. Overall, guests appreciate the welcoming environment and plan to return, though with cautious expectations regarding the menu’s reliability.

I visited for brunch and had a fantastic experience. The food was delicious, and the service was outstanding. We absolutely love this place and will definitely return. A special shoutout to James, our head host, who made our visit even more enjoyable!
The food and atmosphere were excellent, and the service was outstanding. I found the wine to be a bit pricey, so I chose not to order any, but I guess that's just how it is these days. Overall, it was a wonderful experience. I would definitely come back, especially when going to a play at the Crow's Nest next door. It makes for a perfect night out!
Cassoulet was brilliant, much else we had was not. Disappointingly, though they call their apple dessert Tarte Tatin it is nothing of the sort, no deeply caramelized apples, no pastry crust, no sign that it was baked inverted like its namesake. Don’t use such a specific name if it is does not resemble the preparation in the slightest, just call it an apple tart. Our server also interrupted me several times mid-bite to take something from my place setting, once coming from behind me without notice, crowding and bumping me while I had food on my fork. Frustrating is not a quality I expect from service professionals. I’d return for more of the cassoulet and give the front of house another shot but I will not be holding my breath.
The staff was exceptional—very positive and energetic. The brunch was absolutely delicious. Thank you to the chef and the waitstaff!
This was our first time dining at GDL. We were seated in a less than desirable table that seemed like it was an afterthought… compared with the other well spaced tables. We immediately talked with the host who seemed a bit confused with our request to have another table when it became available. Fortunately our server was on the ball and quickly acknowledged that the table was not great and found us one as soon as a party completed their meal . A huge thank you, The service and the food were all great . Oysters, great drinks and French Red Wine, followed by the Salmon dish for my partner, and the Beef Bourgeon for my main. The only dish that was disappointing was the Brussels sprouts which were not fully cooked….. Crème Brûlée was outstanding. This is a very good restaurant.
