We have a great meal mixed with the adventure of anticipation. We had several types of shrimp dumplings, shu Mai, fried balls, and pork fried and dumplings and all were delish. This is a very busy and a little chaotic place, but a very good tasty meal. We don't get genuine dim sum often and this is the real deal. There are plenty of locals and tourists. Highly Recommend it you are looking for dim sum carts! View all feedback.
What Joyce Moore doesn't like about Dim Sum King:
I have ordered from this restaurant multiple times, but the food in my most recent order yesterday was not fresh. The short rib was spoiled, and the tofu had a foul smell. View all feedback.
We went to this place with a few friends because it was recommended to us. Although the restaurant seemed to be quiet big, the tables were placed in a way that you didn‘t feel cramped. The decoration is quiet charming, with chinese dragons hanging from...the cheiling. I didn’t really like the food, but I think that’s more my then the restaurant‘s fault. But everything I liked, was actually pretty good. We also got constant refills of green tea without having to pay for it. The only thing that really did bother me, was that every few minutes a waiter would come to our table and persistently tried to offer us different dishes. I‘m a person who likes to take her time while eating, preferably in a calm environment. The constant offer of different food even before we could decide what to order was really overwhelming and kinda stressful for me. I know that it’s only meant to please the guests, but it was kinda hard to think about what to order and talk with each other when someone constantly tried to talk us into ordering different dishes. So all in all, it was definitely an experience. Some of my friends really enjoyed the food, the staff were kind (although kinda persistend) and the atmosphere was also nice. I probably would not go a second time, but that’s more on me than on the actual quality of the restaurant.
Recommend the Shanghai minced pork and fried short ribs. The shrimp chives dumplings were also good. Friendly staff.
Not bad. The food was just okay. But everything tasted good and fresh, nothing outstanding. The service and the food is by trolley, so you pick what you fancy. It was very fast. The food never stopped coming, but we were seated on a table...right at the main alley, so I guess it is a good position to be, if you don’t mind the “traffic”.
Not only is it many more than a few steps from AGO there are four sets of stairs to climb. the place is large so plenty of seating. however this is trolley service which means they bring around what you are supposed to want to...eat. if you are in the interior as i was the trolleys are quite a distance from you and you need to flag down the server if you think you want it after an hour and only 2 dishes i wanted i asked for sesame balls which i eventually got as i asked for the check. speaking of the check it is quite expensive for dim sum and they had tacked on tea which i insisted be taken off. the washrooms are deplorable with water on the floor and a tip bring your own tp.
This was easily our most disappointing dining experience in Canada (Montreal and Toronto) during our 9-day trip. We went for lunch on a Friday and it was packed, which is great when eating dim sum. However, the carts being pushed were not the options we...are focused on eating (ha gau, shu mai, chee cheong fun, sticky rice, char shu bao). The chicken feet cart and the Portuguese egg tart cart must have came by us 5 times though. A manager did try to help us get the chee cheong fun, but after he delivered it, he disappeared. If you go, make sure you get a table in the middle of the ballroom, otherwise, you might be eating your chopsticks.
