My friend and I went for dinner to Bestellen and had a great time. Spanish marinated Octopus was amazing, spiced perfectly , Gin, basil, and lime cocktail awesome and the best steak I have had in a long time. Friendly knowledgeable and attentive staff. My water glass was never empty. The atmosphere was urban trendy and the washrooms were very clean. You won't regret having dinner at this place! View all feedback.
What Alize Kozey doesn't like about Bestellen:
We wanted a spot to eat, have a few drinks and catch up! Food was good but not over the top. $8 for a cup of pudding desert and $4.50 coffee put the bill way up. Staff were pleasant but we asked twice to have the music turned down. If you like loud music eat there. The fellow clearing the tables snatched stuff away and we felt rushed. I would not go back! The service at this restaurant was very disorganized and apathetic. Despite making a reservation, we waited 40 minutes after being seated before a server acknowledged us. Our order was forgotten, and we sat for another hour without food or drinks. It wasn't until we got their attention and asked about our order that the server and manager finally entered it, but we still had to wait another 40 minutes. I don't enjoy being thirsty or hungry at a restaurant. I prefer places like Bar Isabel, which have excellent food and take pride in their service.
This was our third time to Bestellen and we went back for the burger which is delicious. Half price bottles of wine on Sundays but great cocktails as well. Great food and although the starters are a but pricey for the portion size. Pork belly for example was tasty but $18 for two pieces?! Go here for the meat which is ages in house and try the burger. My biggest complaint? The chairs and seating. Uncomfortable to say the least! In the front are metal chairs that look nice but after a few minutes you'll want to get up. At the back, pick from wooden bench seating or old office looking chairs that are lower than they should be.
Food and atmosphere were great! My only complaint was that the fries were a little too salty. I also wish the pasta portion sizes were a little bit bigger.
Our previous experiences have been that of lackluster service balanced by excellent food. Despite a half empty room, the service was overwhelmed and unable to complete our orders. The courtesies extended by the front of the house are now gone: a distracted greeting upon arrival and no acknowledgement on leaving. The touch in the kitchen is getting heavier as the salting for their sides and fries can only be described as intense. It is possible that we simply arrived at a bad time. In a city where many of the dining segments can be very competitive, it is a shame to see a well liked establishment resting on their laurels so early in their career.
Food was really great; simple, authentic food experience. Menu was diverse with a matching cocktail list. I 100% recommend this restaurant.
