Was Lawson Emard at Bestellen a mag?
My friend and I went for dinner to Bestellen and had a great time. Spanish marinated Octopus was amazing, spiced perfectly , Gin, basil, and lime cocktail awesome and the best steak I have had in a long time. Friendly knowledgeable and attentive staff. My water glass was never empty. The atmosphere was urban trendy and the washrooms were very clean. You won't regret having dinner at this place! View all feedback.

What Alize Kozey dislikes about Bestellen:
We wanted a spot to eat, have a few drinks and catch up! Food was good but not over the top. $8 for a cup of pudding desert and $4.50 coffee put the bill way up. Staff were pleasant but we asked twice to have the music turned down. If you like loud music eat there. The fellow clearing the tables snatched stuff away and we felt rushed. I would not go back! We selected this restaurant for a birthday dinner, and we have no regrets! The waiter was attentive and detailed in his recommendations. The appetizers (crispy pig ears and beef tartare) were very flavourable and main courses (duck breast and lamb chop) were very well done. Would highly recommend for special occasions (or if you're feeling like treating yourself.) the prices are comparable to the other high-end restaurants in Toronto, but you're guaranteed to get your money's worth!

On our fourth and final night in Toronto, a good friend insisted we join her at Bestellen. She wouldn't accept us not ordering the burger.I wasn't too enthusiastic about another burger in Toronto (having enjoyed a fairly decent one at the BNB restaurant in the Sheraton hotel.) She persisted, so two of us decided to split the steak tartare and the burger. This is no crumbly, firm patty tossed between two pieces of bread. This is a decadent melange of different meat cuts, cooked to perhaps medium rare, all tender and soft between its buttery brioche bun. Was I eating a burger? Perhaps a foie gras sandwich? Ambrosia? The steak tartare was very good, but I don't envy it having to be compared to the burger. A bit strange that it came with no crostini (we're told the crispy shallots stand in for bread but my palate disagrees - we're promptly brought delicious grilled house-made sourdough bread.)Service is amazing – funny, personable, but not imposing or intrusive, and he also gave us a tour of the meat locker where all their beef is aged. Wine is expensive like everywhere in Toronto, as are cocktails, but the negronis were very well made.I look forward to returning on my next visit to Toronto.

I went into this experience with eyes wide open, well aware of the $5/oz market rate for their specialty rib eye. The meal was everything I expected and the service was jubilant and worth of my extra tip. Like many Toronto restaurants (and I don't go to many,) I found that Bestellen made a bigger thing out of their particular specialty than it necessary warrants. Yes, bone marrow is awesome, but so are good sides. So we ordered the 32oz steak to share and a side of potatoes and mushrooms. Both were very good, if a little salty for my wife's tastes. I really enjoyed the pigs ears as a starter - think hard tasty fries. The word of warning on the steak, don't eat the fat, at least not in one big bite like I did - it takes away from the rest of the meal. I will definitely go back, but not any time soon.
