The Banknote Bar

The Banknote Bar
3.9 / 5 (6323 reviews)

Description

Banknote, located in Toronto, received mixed reviews from patrons. Some mentioned issues with service, including long wait times, unattentive staff, and rude waitresses. Others complained about bland food, broken facilities, and uncomfortable experiences. However, there were also positive comments about the good food, cold beer, and great atmosphere, especially during hockey Thursday. Despite mixed reviews, Banknote seems to be a popular spot for locals and visitors alike, with a decent selection of pub-style food and a cozy ambiance, making it a decent option for a casual lunch or dinner.

As ever more trendy hipster bars pop up in King West, where it is more important to be seen than it is to demand great service and good value, it is refreshing to have a true neighbourhood bar to have a cold drink after work or dinner with friends. The bar is located in an old converted bank, with plenty of wood, high vaulted ceilings and large windows opening out onto King St. and Bathurst St. The food is fairly standard pub fare, but good quality and generous portions. The service is attentive, with Marty on the day bar and a very friendly McKenzie serving most of the week. Patrons range from film crew roadies and construction workers, to advertising executives, to tourists and families stopping in before going to a Jays or Leafs game. There is even the occasional hipster to round out the crowd. If you're looking for a place in King West that will make you feel like you're at your regular local, then check out Banknote Bar.

I ordered a steak, and all I got was a slab of meat and some average french fries. No sauce or a salad on the side. The meat also looked and tasted burnt. The beer was good and they had a nice selection. The waitress was nice, but very clingy. After we paid for our meal the waitress ran after us and "demanded" more in tips, but we didn't want to pay for something we didn't get. They also play super loud electronic dance music in what is supposed to be a cozy sports bar which totally ruins the atmosphere. Overall a bad experience, wouldn't come again.

I felt overrated, nothing special compare to other places beside it, typical beer selection, average food.

My band Soule Food played St Patrick's Day to a packed and happy crowd of St Patty's day people and we had so much fun seeing you dance and sing alone with us. James and his great staff are the best and treated us like gold as we brought in another St Patrick's Day for 2018! Loved it. Check us out at soulefoodband on Facebook.

Horrible services my friend and I wanted to just use the washroom we understood last call already happened we explained to one of the workers outside that we just wanted to use the bathroom , he was kind and let us in but one worker very rude and inconsiderate asked us to pay $10 to use the washroom. What kind of establishment charges $10 to use the washroom when the kitchen and bar is closed. Horrible service
