We were given a platter of nibbles (olives, nuts, cr... read more Stopped off at Bar Stampa for a drink about 6pm. Reasonably priced Spritz and wine given how central it is. We were given a platter of nibbles (olives, nuts, crisps) and expected a cover charge or to pay extra but it was covered by the cost of the drinks which was a nice surprise.

After spending the morning wandering around (to me) a very elegant city we discovered this little bar on a side street off the elegant arcades along the via Rom... read more After spending the morning wandering around (to me) a very elegant city we discovered this little bar on a side street off the elegant arcades along the via Roma. The bar was fairly empty when we arrived. We went down to the lower level and dined alone but by the time we finished lunch the restaurant was packed . We were among incredibly friendlylocals and we didn't hear a word of English spoken . The waitress wasn't pleased that she would have to serve us down stairs (although there was a lift that seemed packed with restaurant supplies) ..she claimed she didn't speak English when she came to take our order so I ordered in my not too flawless Italian but she did warm to us; and as we were leaving flashed a great smile and a thank you in English.The service was smooth I ordered .the asparagus torte that was served with a side salad of mixed greens.Very refreshing. My partner order a Caeser .salad. A big portion that was mixed with chicken breast. He was delighted with his choice We skipped having dessert here although they looked great but went on to find a bar with incredible flavors for our first gelato of the day. Italian gelato is an addiction. This was only a day trip from our apartment in Milan but look forward to going back to Turin and hopefully another lunch at Bar Stampa.
