What Debi C dislikes about Devon Dumpling:
Very disappointed with our food last week, sadly we were forewarned about the poor quality of food before we ate there. Hubbi had a meal with peas that were in a solid mass rather than loose, and i had an awful veggi burger that was like mash potato. Very disappointed with our food last week, sadly we were forewarned about the poor quality of food before we ate there. Hubbi had a meal with peas that were in a solid mass rather than loose, and i had an awful veggi burger that was like mash potato. We really should have mentioned this at the time but it was so busy and we just thought it was a bad night. However during the night we were both poorly with stomach cramps and sickness. We certainly wont be eating at the venue again, such a shame as lovely pub. Not impressed.
Come back in and tried the new menu, really good, well done to Josh seems to have turned the place around for the best
We booked meal for four for 1.30pm at 2.10 had to ask now long meal would be the manager said about 10 mins he a burger and 3 Sunday roasts. He also said they did not have thin chips they only had fat ones which we said would be okay. When the roasts arrived all the vegitables were raw the Yorkshire puddings were like leather. Asked for manager who came and said he would send more vegitables which ee said we did not want. But he brought them anyway the dish was dirty and vegitables were no better. I asked for him to take meals away as they were disgusting. He just kept saying ha had had no other complaints and walked away He was a very poor and rude manager. When I paid I asked for a discount as the food was not up to standard but he just tried to make excuses. I told him if he did not accept my card straight away I would walk out as his attitude was very impolite and argumentative. No customer service.
Poor service with equally poor food. Dried out food and waited over 5 minutes for some cutlery to arrive so dinner was then cold aswell. Won't be visiting again
The Devon Dumpling has garnered mixed reviews recently, reflecting a stark contrast in dining experiences. While some patrons are disappointed with overcooked meals and a decline in food quality, citing tough service and unappetizing presentations, others commend the restaurant's revitalized atmosphere under new management. Positive feedback highlights excellent food and quick service, with many enjoying specials like the bacon and cheese quiche. Despite past accolades for their roasts, recent changes have left loyal customers disheartened. The establishment now presents a blend of praise and critique, making for an uncertain future for regulars and newcomers alike.

The food was delicious and the service was quick. The atmosphere was not very lively, but we visited early in the day so we assume it improves, especially in the evening.
I was very impressed by this restaurant. The food was delicious and even though the menu seemed simple, the quality was outstanding.
The food at this restaurant is absolutely delicious and feels like a home-cooked meal. The service is exceptional and the staff is very attentive. Despite being very busy, our waitress was outstanding. I highly recommend visiting this place.
We had a great lunch meal recently. Really good food and great value for money. I had the special of the day which was bacon and cheese quiche. The other meals coming out of the kitchen all looked good. Would recommend.
Have been a regular customer of the ‘Dumpling’ and their roasts were the best BUT not now! Went today and ordered the same as usual 1 beef 1 belly pork. It used to come with veg in a dish with roast potatoes, pilled with meat then large Yorkshire on top. Not now, veg scattered on plate (looked as though they had been placed to look attractive however it was cold, I am guessing by the time it took to do it!)Pots in middle. Little very thin sliced beef on my husbands topped with a soggy yorkshire. Mine the same but a slice of belly pork with burnt crackling(Would not have put it on the plate) see below, asked for extra gravy as usual when ordering but didn’t come in a jug it was a dipping bowl(tiny enough for one of us) and was very thin and watery. No cauliflower cheese unless you paid extra, this again has changed. No one came and asked if our meal was ok. We left after paying as no one came to clear our plates. It wasn’t that busy as we booked for 2pm. Will not return, new plating not for us. Used to be our local, not now. Don’t change what isn’t broke!
