It's an unusual pub. Recently renovated to a great standard, keep the character of a 100 years old pub. The clientele is a very joviale blue collar crew, which is a little incompatible with the decor and the strange high-end visitor. Somehow everything works well. Service is friendly and efficient. Prices are better than average. There is plenty of space for everyone, including organised events and groups. There's a... View all feedback.
What User doesn't like about Royal Hotel Toowoomba:
I always enjoyed the fish chips and desserts, but last visit I tried the salt and pfeffer calamari and it was really terrible. the coating was not boiled through (pallid, soft, raw crumb) and the squid lying underneath was tough and rubber-like, as if they were previously boiled, frozen up before immersion in crumbs and someone forget to actually cook it again with the crumb coating. too busy in the kitchen apparentl... Attended a private function and could not fault the food, drinks, service and atmosphere. The 2 courses were delicious and our host Helen was gracious and friendly. Highly recommended.
3 of us visited the Hotel for lunch. We did not book....it was a Tuesday. The hotel was moderately busy. Given a choice of tables we found a suitable one and when we noticed the hotel filling up decided to order our meals. The meals arrived in short order. Chicken Caesar Salad excellent, Home made beef rissoles rubbish and a Royal Roast Chicken very good. Bar service was great and they make a decent lemon lime and bitters. Recently renovated...not too noisy and very pleasant fresh flowers on the tables, Refreshment rooms were outstanding. Table service was first class......finally they make a great coffee there as well, and all the meals were very reasonably priced.
The only pub I know that does real home cooked veges, and potato bake, (not half cooked steamed hard brocolli, or chips only) etc. like most. Beautiful flowers on tables, lovely decor. Choc pizza desert so yum. Calamari so tender. Warm fireplace. Good service. Plenty of choices on menu. Have been numerous times, mostly for lunch.
We are regulars at the Royal and love the food , staff are good and beer garden nice place, you have to be vacced which makes us feel safer
I visited the Royal as school families had recommended checking out the renovation and easy menu. I had just put my daughters into boarding school and wanted to sit and relax after what has been a turbulent time like most of us have experienced of late. I went to the bathrooms which was inside the restaurant which lead outside to a indoor outdoor setting bathed in sunlight. I started taking photos to show my son as to what I did on my weekend with his sisters and saw a colour scheme I liked for home. A woman began to raise her voice at me and demand to know why I was taking photos and then accused me of being from Brisbane to copy her pub. In today’s world people pay influencers to promote their businesses and snap locations. The behaviour so unprofessional for an owner (that she made sure everyone knew she was) that I like many won’t be going there again which is a shame for the school events I was going to help with this year and 6 we chose to be there. I was seeing if it would be suitable. Where it ask down below do I have photos to share- no I deleted after she then went and spoke to bar staff that sat staring at us. We also had staff and locals laugh at us ordering a pint not a pot of beer. So if you are new locals, or out of town from Brisbane, Sydney or Melbourne don’t bother going as they make it very clear this pub is only for locals. The owner must be rolling in it to not want to welcome new customers looking for their new local. Clearly this pub wasn’t effected by Covid and have a lot of business to survive just through their local clients.
