SOBO - Tofino
SOBO
Description
Sobo, a famous and busy restaurant in Tofino, offers a variety of gluten-free options but lacks a dedicated gluten-free menu. While the service is friendly and the vibe is fun, some diners have experienced disappointment with regards to food quality and service. Despite these setbacks, many guests have enjoyed the fresh oysters, mushroom pizza, and signature dishes like Manila mussels and salmon chowder. Creative touches on the menu make dining here a unique experience, with standout items like lime cake and Gin and Tonic infused with local botanicals receiving high praise. Overall, Sobo is a mixed bag with some guests raving about the quality food at affordable prices, while others have encountered issues with cleanliness, poor service, and disappointing dishes like cod fritters.

The Buckwheat Noodle Salad is amazing! A little spicy but so so good! I will definitely be back.
We went back to SoBo for dinner (we went two years ago . I called in advance to make a reservation and spoke to the owner/chef to see if plates could be modified for vegans. She said for sure (they did this last time too . The menu changes. We had this beautiful dish minus the yogurt making it vegan. It was divine! Yam with charred wild rice, kale, chickpeas and slight spicy sauce. They even had a vegan cookie ; . Highly recommend.
Very accommodating to our requests, making menu recommendations and suggestions. Food was lovely and service excellent. GREAT vegan, gluten free cookie for dessert. You can also get takeaway food from there.
I went to Sobo with my omni parents after reading the reviews on here. They no longer clearly advertise their vegan options, but the staff was very accommodating when I asked them for such. It took an hour for us to get our food, but that seems to be the exception rather than the rule. Great food and overall I'd strongly recommend this place.
This restaurant is fantastic for lunch or dinner! We tried the Manila clams x 2, margherita pizza, and polenta fries as a starter. Everything was delicious. Just a heads up, the polenta fries are quite filling so one per person is plenty, especially if you are also ordering mains. Our clams had a little bit of sand in them, but that can happen sometimes. The bread served with the clams was fantastic, especially with the salt flakes on top. It was perfect for dipping in the clam broth. We ended our meal with a slice of key lime pie, which you absolutely must try!
