Sobo, a famous and busy restaurant in Tofino, offers a variety of gluten-free options but lacks a dedicated gluten-free menu. While the service is friendly and the vibe is fun, some diners have experienced disappointment with regards to food quality and service. Despite these setbacks, many guests have enjoyed the fresh oysters, mushroom pizza, and signature dishes like Manila mussels and salmon chowder. Creative touches on the menu make dining here a unique experience, with standout items like lime cake and Gin and Tonic infused with local botanicals receiving high praise. Overall, Sobo is a mixed bag with some guests raving about the quality food at affordable prices, while others have encountered issues with cleanliness, poor service, and disappointing dishes like cod fritters.

What Adélaïde Bazin dislikes about SOBO:
Seafood Chowder was disappointing. Mostly potatoes, other vegetables, then lastly, salmon. Should be renamed vegetable chowder if based on percentage of ingredients. The broth was good, but I was disappointed and shocked to see canola oil called for in their cookbook recipes. The information is out there folks: highly processed seed oils aka vegetable oils, aka PUFAs, are toxic. Use olive oil instead...please, update... View all feedback.
The seafood at this restaurant is deliciously fresh. The cornbread is quite sweet, but I thoroughly enjoyed it. The oysters and clams were caught that very day. The service was extremely fast and friendly.
The food is fantastic, service is fast, staff is professional, and the atmosphere is lovely. I highly recommend this restaurant and would definitely return.
I visited this restaurant specifically for the highly recommended fish chowder, but the real standout was the double chocolate cookies. Unfortunately, I didn't take any photos of them, but they were the best cookies I've ever had!
The Buckwheat Noodle Salad is amazing! A little spicy but so so good! I will definitely be back.
We went back to SoBo for dinner (we went two years ago . I called in advance to make a reservation and spoke to the owner/chef to see if plates could be modified for vegans. She said for sure (they did this last time too . The menu changes. We had this beautiful dish minus the yogurt making it vegan. It was divine! Yam with charred wild rice, kale, chickpeas and slight spicy sauce. They even had a vegan cookie ; . Highly recommend.
