This is one of our staples when we are in austria! Excellent food with great service, well off the beaten track. But it is worth driving up the mountain for! We were never disappointed. View all feedback.
What JTurts doesn't like about Alpengasthof Schneeberg:
We visited on Easter Sunday, which was very busy. we had a reservation, but still waited over half an hour to get to our table, and over an hour for food. it turns out, our waitress forgot to put our order through! We got a free schnapps to cover it, but almost to apology, and no discount on the food. the staff looked very busy and stressed, as it was full to max, but there was little service. the food however was ab... I've been coming to this place since I was a child. And it hasn't changed a bit!! The food is good. Honest food and big portions. No more though. The rooms are quite basic and sometimes consist of several connecting rooms on different levels- with and without windows!! We are a big family!! Absolutely ancient bathrooms and towels you'd have thrown out years ago. Relatively pricey for what they are too. Most disappointing is the breakfast. Austria has fantastic breads and a great selection of rolls or even pastries and all you get here are plain white rolls and a basic kind of bread. Probably the way it was since time began. Staff lack basic customer service training. Overall an okay place for food but I'd look somewhere else for accommodation.
We had the pleasure of dining here twice before in a previous year and it was more than great. So, when we decided to vacation in Austria, the first place that came to mind was The Alpengasthof Schneeberg. We booked 2 bed and breakfast rooms with the dinner option for a week. Our travel companions were more than impressed with the place and location. It was in an area that afforded us to travel within a reasonable distance to attractions and be able to return for our evening meal. The views are exceptional of course and go without saying. The staff was more than pleasant and tried very hard to use English when needed. Since I speak German I was able to do some translating for our friends and my husband. The owner, Andi, greeted us with enthusiasm and a shot. We felt very welcomed, If you ever find yourself in a position to travel in Austria, we highly recommend spending some time at The Alpengasthof.
