What A Pett doesn't like about Jersey Mike's Subs:
I like Jersey Mike's and we had been ordering from them more and more. But, they just totally ghosted my order, so after waiting 2.5 hours I just cancelled. Now, giving a low rating of course I can never order from them again. Plenty of places around to get a decent hoagie, think twice before ordering from this one. View all feedback.
If ya know me, you 'll be surprised that I tried a Jersey Mike 's Sub. My families roots are in South Philly, we moved right over the bridge in the early 1970s to South Jersey, but I still frequent Philadelphia. We call Subs a Hoagie, and we make a compelling argument. I 'll post the story below this review.I don 't visit many chain restaurants because the local establishments in my local area are always far superior.I kept seeing the commercials with my Italian brother Danny Devito, and I trust Danny, so today I decided to give J.M. 's a try.Service and employees. 5 stars, these guys almost hit Chick-fil-A friendliness level!Cleanliness and appearance. 3 stars, not dirty but not spotless. I ate at the location. It was just okay as far as comfortable seating goes. The Sub 3 stars. First, let me say if I 'm ever far from home and I 'm craving a Hoagie and my only choice was a Wawa or a Jersey Mike 's, I would 100% pick a Jersey Mike 's I had tried Subway a long, long time ago, and in my opinion, Subway is awful beyond words, and I 'm amazed they exist in Philadelphia or New Jersey. I had a Jersey Mike 's Original, which is basically an Italian Hoagie. I asked them to hold the peperoni because I 've never had a Hoagie with peperoni, and I didn 't want the peperoni to affect my comparison and judgment as to what I personally enjoy about a Hoagie. The employee offered to add 1 slice of each meat since I didn 't want peperoni. That was very thoughtful of him, and I accepted his offer. The taste wasn 't bad at all, the meat was sliced to order, and the toppings were fresh.Look, if I lived in Alabama and never had a real Philadelphia Hoagie, Jersey Mike 's would have received 5 stars. In my opinion, what Jersey Mike 's could do that would make me enjoy their Sub would be,#1 If you have a location in the Northeast, then get the bread from a local bakery such as Liscio 's. Even if it 's an option to their store made bread. I understand because it 's a chain. Every location has to be exactly the same, so that suggestion won 't work. I 'm not saying the roll was bad, but for me, it didn 't have the slight crunch of a roll from a good bakery.#2 Don 't cut the rolls completely in half. Cutting them completely in half makes for a messy Hoagie. I never had a Hoagie with the roll cut completely in half. It was a little bit of a fight to keep the ingredients in between the bread.I get defensive when I see restaurants that use the word Philly, Philadelphia, or Jersey in their names, especially if they are located in a state that 's not PA. or NJ, but I think that Jersey Mike 's does a good enough job representing the basics of a good Hoagie, so I give them my blessings to bare the word Jersey in their name. One legend of the origin of the hoagie sandwich is tied to Hog Island. Domenic Vitiello, professor of Urban Studies at the University of Pennsylvania, asserts that Italians working on Hog Island in the old Navy Yard introduced the sandwich, by putting various meat, cheese, and lettuce between two slices of bread. This became known as the Hog Island sandwich; hence, the hoagie
Staff was very kind and made my hoagie quickly. They know what they’re doing here 10/10
Ordered seeded rolls for 2 sandwiches I ordered. Got it home and they were hard unseeded rolls. I called them the guy tells me they ran out. Tell me that when I order. Nothing worse than getting home it's not what you ordered. I don't recommend this Jersey Mike's. I wouldn't go back.
Let me start off by saying growing up in an Italian family and eating the best hoagies from Philly and South Jersey, these sandwiches are right up there! Very good. High quality meats and cheese, fresh lettuce, tomatoes, onions etc. They were cooking fresh bacon when we were in there watching our hoagies being made. They were delicious! The guy that made our food also checked us out, his name was Trinidy, he was one of the nicest people my son and I ever met, kind, courteous and professional. I definitely will go back!
