What John H doesn't like about Portage Grill:
Was really looking forward to this place. We tried the fish and chips. The fish batter was very soggy and the fries had no seasoning at all. This review is not exaggerated at all. We were really looking forward to it but there is no way wr could justify the price for the amount of food or quality. The waitress was kind and attentive. View all feedback.
I was recently at The Shilo Inn, the house The Portage Grill. I was a bit thrown by the fact that they have Cajun elements on their menu even thought they were in the ravine.. But to be honest, it was the best service I had in a long time. The food was perfect and the view was excellent. If you ever travel through the Dalles, or you have to look by and see for yourself!!
Food was less than average and expensive. Service was good.
I love coming here with my wife and enjoying the servers and food. During busy times, the food is a bit slow but soooo worth it. Server Angela gets an honorable mention for being the best there is. Parking: Shares parking with the hotel, but we can usually find a spot even at peak hours.

The hotel is undergoing a remodel and lack of signs made it kind of hard to figure out where the restaurant was located. Once inside it has a beautiful view of the bridge over the Columbia as well as the dam. I had the prime rib and wife had the new york steak. Food was very good and the price for two dinners was around 60 bucks. Not bad considering the state of things. When back in the dalles we would definitely eat there again
