The filet was cooked to perfection, and the baked potatoes were large and satisfying. However, the grilled chicken salad left much to be desired. It featured only a single slice of tomato and a small amount of cheese, which felt quite lacking for a $13 salad. Aside from that, the service was excellent, as was most of the meal. We headed down to Texas City from East Texas, on our way we googled “best places to eat in Texas City.” We are SO glad that Gus’ came up!! It was the best experience to start off our vacation!! The staff was so friendly!! Bre was our waitress and she was fabulous!! Her sister is the bartender, she made us both some delicious drinks!! We got the stuffed jalapeños (SO GOOD! , the catfish ettoufe (again SO GOOD! …and Bre recommended the HOMEMADE chocolate cake it is TO DIE FOR!!! We will definitely be back next time we’re in town!!
This was my first time here. I was really impressed with the atmosphere. Very clean. Friendly staff. The food was delicious. Had the rib eye sandwich. It had a great flavor and nice and hot. The onion rings are homemade. The ranch is homemade also. Loved it and will be back.
Gus's has been a favorite of mine for years. Now that it's stuck in the Kroger strip center, we tend to forget about it. But we wanted something besides fast food and we were not disappointed. Chicken fried steak was perfect! Want some good ole home cooking, this is the place to go in Texas City. Great food fair price.

The food was excellent, and the service was quick. Our waitress was very friendly. All I can say is that I’m still hungry!
