We were driving back to CA on a Saturday after a 3-night stay at Rancho La Puerta and thought that we would stop here for lunch to savor some non-vegetarian, non-Spa cuisine in a relaxing atmosphere to allow the border crossing to become less populated. The real trick was finding it with the resources we had....our phones. We drove all around the area, but never did find the restaurant with the help of our navigational systems. Finally, we found a man who was able to tell us how to get there. I recommend using the name and address of the hotel, Santuario Diegueno for directions if you have the same kind of challenge that we had! We were determined, and it turned out to be well worth it. The restaurant itself is clean, beautifully appointed, modern, open and bright. We opted not to sit in the outdoor patio. Inside, with a wall of windows, we had a stunning view of the mountains of Tecate. Service was immediate and we were provided with fresh bread and warm, freshly made tortilla chips with delicious fresh salsa. My friend had the duck tacos with grilled carmelized onions & homemade corn tortillas. I had the ceviche ---so fresh...it did not disappoint! As a ceviche lover, I can be kind of picky. It was definitely a delight. We were going to pass on dessert, but ended up trying the sweet corn pudding pie, which my friend turned her nose up on in the selection process, and she definitely changed her mind. We both loved it. In addition to the impeccable wait staff, we had the pleasure of meeting Alberto Cortes Rosas, Coordinador de Comedor. We had a wonderful conversation with him which really topped off our experience. A hidden jewel is what this restaurant is, but it seems as though that will not last for long.

In this magical town there's lots of good places to eat but the Asao Restaurant catch my attention do to he's beautiful construction the view is nice , service... read more In this magical town there's lots of good places to eat but the Asao Restaurant catch my attention do to he's beautiful construction the view is nice , service was great ,the drinks are made fresh and the food was amazing a little small servings for the price but over all this place I do recommend including deserts they where delicious
