We were staying in San Donato and this was another recommendation for dinner and we were not disappointed. We had made a reservation the prior evening for an early dinner and the place (albeit small) was already almost full when we arrived. The pizzas were large and the selection was extensive. The base was crispy and the topping generous. Highly recommend. View all feedback.
What cantanhab doesn't like about La Taverna Di Ciccino:
Very thin crusted pizza, that is very crispy. Fresh tasty ingredients. Not a wood-fired oven. Staff ok. Nice little square, with mainly outdoors seating. House wine average. View all feedback.
During our ten days staying at Palazzo Malaspina in San Donato in Poggio, we ate at La taverna di ciccino several times and thoroughly enjoyed every meal. Both the pizza and the calzone were excellent, and the camaraderie created by the affable owner and his wife who served us so graciously made it a happy memory. La taverna di ciccino is a very special place, and we are eager to return.
Pizzas are large, crispy, and only 5-8 euro per pizza. The pizza is very thin and crispy. The outer crust is airy almost like a cracker. Toppings are fresh and generous. Not the best pizza of our Italian trip (that belongs to Starita in Naples), but definitely worth the visit. The ambiance of sitting in the town square as you eat adds to your meal experience. The owner is wonderful, even singing loudly in the kitchen as he's making pizzas.
