Great service and food. Too bad the restaurant isn't better configured as you are constantly tripping over people. Service: Dine in Food: 5 Service: 5 Atmosphere: 5 View all feedback.
What Shaun Harrison doesn't like about Hondo:
A guy who says he is the manager told me and my dad to get out of the restaurant after telling him are last name. He had asked us multiple times for our last name and so the last time we said it loud and slow. He got mad and told us to leave the restaurant. Overall it was terrible service and he should definitely not be a manager if he is. It seemed like he was trying to offend us just so we would walk out. If there... View all feedback.
Our last day in the ski valley was a Monday and almost everything was closed. A local recommended Hondo 's and said to order the enchiladas if we wanted a real New Mexican dining experience. We arrived and there was not another soul in sight except the owner/manager/bartender- I 'm not sure, but he was standing outside and seemed happy to have some customers. The ambiance was dated and a little gloomy, but I can picture it as being very cozy and comfortable in the winter. We ordered enchiladas- one order with green chile, one Christmas style (red and green) and a Reuben with fries. I also ordered a spicy margarita , which was pretty pitiful. The best part about it was the tajin on the rim of the glass. One of my teenage daughters is queso crazy and ordered the chips and salsa with queso, even though the person who recommended Hondo 's to us told her the queso would not meet the expectations of a born and raised Austin girl. She was right. The salsa was sweet without a hint of heat and the queso was probably nacho cheese out of a can. But, the enchiladas, y 'all!!! They made up for it all! The posole was outstanding and the enchiladas were a gooey, delicious pile of comfort and joy! My other daughter enjoyed her Reuben and commented how fresh and hot her fries were. I say always trust the locals and this was a win!
Definitely the worst meal I've had in TSV. The service was very subpar with ignoring several of my orders. I should've known it wasn't going to be great as soon as I was the only group here. Food tastes like it was made a weeks ago. Don't come here. Just adding this for the ambiance part.
Hondo offers some great New Mexican comfort food and pub fare at the base of the mountain in Taos Ski Valley. We ate there... two.... three times? I mean, there aren't too many options in this cute town, but Hondo has affordable eats. We tried everything from Philly green chili slides, chicken enchies with red and green chilis (Christmas-style , nachos... and a lot of red wine! I don't rec the margarita btw. It's all mix. (If you want a good marg, order from Rhoda's a stone's throw away. Additional pros: Dog friendly (even inside , fire place, busy bar with people watching, outside patio... food comes out fast!
Refused to do a take- out order. The “manager” asked my husband for his name several times because he couldn’t hear apparently. My husband spoke louder and slower and the manager told him to get out. Weird how you become a manager acting like a child. We had food there for lunch our first day and it wasn’t that good any way.
Great food great service ! Need reservation most days but always good food. Small restaurant but staff is friendly.
