Incredible, yummy, excellent, exceptional! It’s rare that you go to a place at TSV that doesn’t feel overly corporate with basic food and minimal human connection. At DerGarten, you feel the energy of the locals, the warm welcoming touch, and the feeling you want to stay awhile. Everything is homemade by the owners Asia and Christoff, and if you’re lucky, you’ll get to chat with them or hear Christoff play piano in t... View all feedback.
What Jeremy Wong doesn't like about Der Garten:
TLDR: 25% mandatory tip for parties over 6 only communicated to us at bill time. Trying to help out other folks avoid our mistake! Unimpressive food. Shockingly cheap and small portions for kids pasta. Pretty rude dinner service. Not worth the visit apres ski! Dinner: extremely disappointed ! Had a nice sandwich at lunch and reserved for dinner. We were on the last day of an extended and wonderful vacation through New Mexico. Found this gem while scouting the gorgeous drive up to Taos Ski Valley. Garden grown veg, best baguette ever, cozy surroundings. Oh, and be sure to have Asia's Pork Stew if she's got it. Amazing!
Beautiful location we sat, drank a lovely German reisling, ate a locally sourced veggie hummus plate and decompressed. Couldn’t have asked for a more better experience. One of the original Taos locations serving lunch and dinner. Give it a shot. You won’t regret it Asia is wonderful, knowledgeable and so helpful.

Shockingly cheap and small portions for kids pasta. Pretty rude dinner service. Not worth the visit apres ski! Dinner: extremely disappointed ! Had a nice sandwich at lunch and reserved for dinner. Embarrassingly small portions for pasta $10 for about half a cup of noodles with only butter? Lol , daal was baad. Flavourless, frozen quality naan. They told us at bill time that we had to pay at least 25% tip. What a sad experience after a reasonably priced lunch and a nice server at lunch.
Excellent eatery and lodging if you're looking to stay at the ski valley. Wonderful german and indian food, excellent atmosphere, unique and comfy rooms, and best of all wonderful proprietors. Be aware the owner is hard of hearing but she is wonderful!
Had a very disappointing experience here. We came here with a larger group for dinner: 8 people. Firstly, the food was okay. My partner had the the Dahl stew $20), which didn’t have much flavor. I had the lobster pasta $30), which tasted fine. One of the kids in our group got the kids butter pasta, which was a very tiny portion $10), so be warned. Our kid had to ask for a second serving. The most disappointing part was they told us as we were getting the bill that for a bigger group, there’s a mandatory tip of 25%. We told them they should give people a warning if that’s the case ahead of time, to which they said that the host should have told us. I’ve never had a mandatory tip be more than 18%. Paying a quarter of the bill as a surcharge is ridiculous. We would have gone elsewhere had we known. Will not return.
