The Central Coffee is my favorite coffee spot in the small square of Tangier, located in the city's historic Medina. This iconic coffee shop was frequented in the past by numerous philosophers, artists, writers, and European and American bohemians. In fact, the Beat Generation writer William Burroughs mentioned several times that this was one of his favorite cafes in the city. Today, it may not be as bohemian as it was during Tangier's golden age, but you can still enjoy one of the best mint teas in the city on their terrace. The tea is served by a knowledgeable waiter and costs only 70 cents if you're feeling a little nostalgic. Typically, cafes and bars in the area are frequented mostly by men, although you may occasionally see a group of women or a family enjoying their time at The Central Coffee.
