We visited Restaurant Tchaikovsky on Saturday, May 2nd, at 6:00 PM to celebrate my 40th birthday with 12 of my closest friends. We were looking forward to an evening of exquisite food and excellent service, but unfortunately, the experience turned out to be a great disappointment. We opted for the restaurant's five-course menu with a paired wine package, but the meal stretched over three and a half hours—far beyond what is reasonable for this type of service. Several of the courses were delayed for an unnecessary amount of time, and on multiple occasions, we had to go to the bar ourselves to get drinks, as the waiters did not follow up. We raised our concerns early with the waiter, but the response was minimal. Only after bringing it up again were we informed that the kitchen had insufficient capacity that evening, and we were offered an extra round of wine as compensation. One of the most striking details was the use of a measuring glass to portion the wine before pouring it into our glasses—an unusual practice that reinforced the impression of minimal generosity. Despite the restaurant’s reputation, we left the place both hungry and thirsty after what was supposed to be a high-class dining experience. Unfortunately, Restaurant Tchaikovsky did not live up to expectations, and we cannot recommend the place based on our experience. The waiter looked looked deeply troubled as we asked for a reservation the next evening. After careful search, he finally agreed to At eight then...maybe. As we arrived promptly the next evening the dining hall was less than half full. It stayed that way for the duration of our long dinner. The first waitress we encountered had no problem concealing her lack of enthusiasm for our arrival. Fortunately, the second one had a more welcoming tone, although there was still a sense of social distancing. The food was excellent, and well presented, as one could expect given the price level. We also got some good advice on one of the wines. The best part was the desserts! Real hits, both of them. Part of the up-nosed attitude of this establishment is the dress code: smart casual. We did make an effort in that regard, but were rewarded with a parade of torn jeans, shorts, baggy T-shirts and flip-flops during the evening. A bit of a dissonance in the Symphony of Russian Cuisine that was advertised.

No space; running like horses! Half empty restaurant. Seemed a little weak to me. Now it took them 10 minutes to even come to the front to speak with me, soooo not impressed with such great service comments. Oh well...things change.

Terrible service, or actually no service at all. Please do not waist your time, there is a lot more better restaurants in Tallinn…

One of the finest restaurants I have ever had the pleasure of eating at. Breakfast has a Buffett option or a generous menu selection. Breakfast Buffett has eggs, bacon, cereals, porridge, a variety of cut meats, breads, salad items, juices, and drinks. Service is very attentive and responsive. Dinner selections are fairly broad, with beef, duck, nice deserts, and a good wine selection. Reservations for dinner like many restaurants in Old Town are pretty much required.
