I’ve eaten in this restaurant for the last fifteen years. The food is good, with a nice selection of Japanese dishes. However the restaurant itself could be improved immensely,to give it character and a more pleasing feel. View all feedback.
What freddiedoncaster doesn't like about Rosemary:
I’ve eaten here possibly on over one hundred occasions, well that’s saying something! However on my more recent visits I’ve certainly noticed a downward curve in not only choice changed menu) but also certain dishes don’t appear to be up to the restaurants usual standard. When you order the eleven piece sashimi dish, you would expect to get eleven pieces and not eight! When you are half way through your starter you w... View all feedback.
Went here thinking we were going somewhere special. Big disappointment. Restaurant had no ambience. Bright lights. And cold, they didn’t even bother to light our candle on the table. We were informed there would be a little wait as my partner ordered sushi which was freshly made. That was ok so we asked for the bread and oil platter to nibble on whilst we waited and were told the bread was frozen so would probably take as long as the food itself. What??? So we skipped the bread and waited for our meal. Only 2 vegetarian options on the menu so I went for the stuffed pepper which was a little bit soggy (was that frozen too) and then asked for the homemade cheesecake. Which I luckily thought to check if it was vegetarian. Which it turned out not to be. Why would you make a cheesecake and not make it vegetarian? It’s harder to make it non vegetarian than vegetarian...! So I had a coffee instead. Unfortunately this was poor quality and tasted like it came from a push button dispenser type machine. I felt sorry for the waiter really as I don’t think there is much management presence to guide them and oversee the service so they are in the front line. All in all, I would not go back here and sadly would struggle to recommend it to anyone.
We arrived at the opening and were second table seated. Regardless of said fact, food didn't arrive until about more than 30 minutes after the drink order, which is unbelievably slow. other than that, food was reasonably tasty
At the suggestion of the Stanton House Hotel reception we booked a table for the Rosemary restaurant at 1830. The quiet period. The restaurant staff were efficient and polite. Taken to our table and asked if we would like some drinks while we perused the menu. Drinks were brought quite quickly and order taken some 15 mintes after we arrived. We then had to wait some 30 minutes for our food to arrive which when you think that this was the quietess period and that there were only 15 other people in the restaurant makes you wonder what happens during a busy period. I should point out that one of the members of staff did apologise for the delay. Having said that the dinner was very good and well presented and we enjoyed it. The spoiler was that we both wanted a pudding but were going out for the evening and felt we could not indulge because we did not know how long it would take to be prepared and served. Shame really that this issue has coloured my marking because the service marking of Poor does not reflect my opinion of the restaurant staff but the kitchen staff where there is obviously an issue. PS one of the businessmen on a table for 4 did have words with a waitress over the time taken to serve so it was not only my views.
We were staying at the hotel, so it was convenient to pop downstairs and enjoy a meal and drink in comfortable surroundings.
Stayed here for a few days earlier in the year and we are going back in December.Never been a fan of Japanese food until we went to the Stanton. Over two nights had a variety of dishes all of which were very good and I managed to eat everything with chopsticks! Very good value and service as you would expect. 81
