Akropol Family Restaurant & Dining Room

About 8 of us enjoyed a lovely lunch service was great and food was, too. Akropol continues to be one of our favorite places to eat in Swift Current!

I love going out for a glass of wine and maybe an appetizer! I think the atmosphere is great for friends to meet or by yourself for some time alone. Service is always friendly!

I definitely do not recommend this restaurant. The food was below average, but not terrible. It was disappointing. The calamari was rubbery. The “Greek salad” was overly salty and was covered in shredded cheese (not feta cubes), and mixed with what appeared to be green pepper and white onion toppings for a pizza. The souvlaki chicken was ok, if not a little dry. I very rarely mention these kinds of things to the server, but I felt it could have been better. When I told our server about our concerns in a very polite manner, she sort of shrugged, as if agreeing with our opinion. BUT, THE WORST PART WAS THE OWNER REACTION. He practically stormed over to our table and quickly became very defensive. He said they were not really classified as a Greek restaurant despite the menu items. He went on to “explain” to me that a real Greek salad was a Horiatiki salad. He further said their restaurant had been in business since 1962 and that they needed to save money on ingredients. At no time did he apologize for our experience. His response to our comments was inexcusable. He could have simply apologized and said good night, but chose to tell me how wrong I was and “educate” me.

Do not order the turkey dinner. The salad to start the meal was lettuce with a few pieces of cucumber and one wedge of tomato, the mashed potatoes were dry and tasteless, the carrots were so overcooked they should have been mashed, the turkey was okay but not much there, they forgot the stuffing and I paid twice for the gravy (it doesn't come with the meal). I have had this before and it was okay but this was unforgivable. It should be taken off the menu.

I did happened to stay over night in Swift Current and needed some food for the evening! I did visit Akropol and asked for the meny! They had many dishes on their meny! I thought, do I dare to order Halibut in Saskatchewan, it is after all sea food? I did order Halibut and smashed potatoes! The waitress suggested ordering super salad as well! When the order was completed, the waitress said, cool and walked away. I have eaten halibut three times in Canada at different restaurants! I was in for a surprise then I received my Halibut. The halibut was at least three times bigger than any of the other restaurants I had visited and eaten Halibut. The super salad looked fantastic it was actually three different kind of salad to my surprise the smallest thing on the plate was the smashed potatoes! This was my best Halibut in Canada and I ate it at Akropol in Swift Current in Saskatchewan of all places. It was the cheapest Halibut compared to other restaurant but it was also the best and most delicious Halibut!I do strongly recommend a visit to a restaurant serving wonderful food for affordable money! I did not realize there were two Akropol Restaurants in Swift Current. My review belongs to this restarurant!
