The experience was amazing bartender was a delight and great with recommendations. Interior was beautiful and loved the ambiance of the restaurant overall. The set menu overall displayed a whole variety of different meats some were great but one or two dishes could’ve had stronger flavours. Loved the dessert at the end perfect dish to end the (very filling) set menu. View all feedback.
What Matt W doesn't like about Firedoor:
Well that was a waste of time! Stop kidding yourself, average at best. Lucky we added on the beef and mussels or we were going home hungry. I’d we happy to be hungry if I’d had an eating EXPERIENCE but nah, it was just a meal. View all feedback.
Simply put, eight of us were completely underwhelmed, frustrated and disappointed with the lack of flavour delivered in each dish. What was supposed to be an indulgent evening of expense with enjoyment, culminated in a waste of money. Bland, flavourless courses, including the lobster, mixed with substandard “premium” wine. The food delivered wasn’t even trying to be pretentious, it was just plain, and to be honest, simply dull. Judging from the reviews, we weren’t the only ones that have been hugely disappointed. June 30th.
The Firedoor was very hyped and as noted by other reviewers hard to get in to. We had high expectations which were not met by some distance. The main issue was the set menu…I presume given everything is cooked by fire there is a limited number of dishes that the kitchen can handle. We did swap out one of the items but frankly many of them were not to our taste or to our taste but just not that good. Unless you like oily fish the Bonito is one to avoid….in fact i could not eat 2 of the first three courses. There was one course that was exceptional and that was the ‘special’…the lamb, and the bread also was excellent…..but that’s where it ended. Staff were good notwithstanding one knocked a full glass of water over my partner…but these things happen. Price…extremely expensive..and most definitely not worth it. We ate at three similarly priced restaurants during our visit to Sydney …the other two were worth it….a pity.
We were so excited to finally being able to get a reservation to Firedoor it’s not easy. Sadly, we were extremely underwhelmed. Staff were ok. Food lacked flavour. There was definitely not much smokiness except maybe in the asparagus. We left hungry and stopped off at Hungry Jacks on the way home where hubby reckons the burger patty had more smokiness than any of the food at Firedoor. Yikes! Not sure how they were awarded hats again this year. Disappointed.
I was so excited to try Firedoor restaurant after 6 months wait list. But it has been the most disappointing experience. Firedoor lost the hype it had in the past. Service is arrogant: the waiter refused to give me 1 minute to finish my wine, he rushed us to the door even if we paid $3000 for the table. Food is average. The only highlight is the meat and the dessert. But not worth the premium price. They have a time limit of 3h and they do not even give you one more minute to enjoy and rush you through the door (even if the next people were not waiting at the door of the restaurant). I won’t come again and do not recommend. There are way better fine dining restaurants in Sydney such as Tetsuya and Aria.
