Mek's is one of those hidden gem/local-knowledge restaurants that makes me feel lucky to have found it. It is purely authentic Malaysian/Thai food with depth of flavor that comes from ground-up spice mixes, slowly simmered curries, delicate roti canai and fried rice cooked by actual Malaysian people. My hubby found the laksa a little sweet - his preference is more savory, but that does not make it bad. The food value... View all feedback.
This family-owned restaurant serves delicious and authentic Malaysian cuisine prepared by a skilled Malaysian chef. It's definitely worth checking out and supporting this great couple. Be sure to try their amazing dishes!
Mek’s Delight was recommended by a friend when we llwere discussing about Halal restaurant for South East Asian food. Interior was simple clean, there’s only 5 tables in the restaurant, so come early or call them first. Parking was plentiful at the back of the restaurant. The place is run by a husband wife team, wife is from Kelantan, Malaysia hubby is from Thailand. Hence the combination of Malaysian Thai food. Very friendly attentive service despite a 2 person team. We ordered fried rice with fried chicken, Nasi Lemak (coconut rice), Chicken Briyani, Mee Goreng, Rendang. The flavour of the dishes was spot on, the fried chicken was extremely tasty, the flavour went right into the meat with a crispy skin. Who doesn’t like crispy chicken skin? The Chicken Briyani was good, even better with the small bowl of curry that comes with the Briyani rice. Mee Goreng was authentically yummy! I am going to order that the next time. The coconut rice (Nasi Lemak), the rice was so fragrant, it is cooked with lemongrass which gives off a very lovely smell beside the taste. The beef Rendang was expensive but so… worth it, you can taste that it is made from scratch.. the beef was so tender that it melts in your mouth, we ordered a side of rice to go with it… such a marriage made in your mouth. We also ordered Thai iced tea tea tarik… We will be back!
What a wonderful experience! The restaurant is owned by a kind Malaysian woman and her Thai husband, and they offer authentic, home-cooked Thai and Malaysian dishes. The conversation was engaging, the atmosphere was friendly, and the food was absolutely delicious. We even had the pleasure of chatting with a friend of theirs who shared fascinating insights about Malaysia, sparking our interest in visiting the country. We will definitely be returning for another visit!
The coconut rice was delicious, the chicken was super crunchy, and the fish sambal had just the right amount of spice. The service was good and the atmosphere was comfortable and authentic. It's a great value for the price. If I were more generous with my ratings, I would give this place 5 stars.
Finally checked out this little Malay restaurant. Atmosphere was relaxed, small place, clean. The decor reminded me of Malaysia. Service was relaxed, very Malaysian, which is not stellar by Canadian standards. But the owner was very friendly and welcoming once I started talking with him. The food was very good. I can tell that they use good ingredients. Stir fried vegetables came with 6 or 7 different kinds of vegetables, not overcooked, good and crunchy. Roti Canai, curry puffs, and Kelantan chicken curry were all very good and well-balanced, very flavourful. Will be back.
