Tokachi Japanese Restaurant in Surrey, British Columbia has been serving up hot dishes and sushi since 1995. With a sushi bar and ample space for groups, guests can enjoy a variety of options like the California combo for lunch, which includes prawn and vegetable tempura, a California roll, beef or chicken teriyaki, a green salad with ginger-soy dressing, and miso soup. As usual we have visited Tokachi restaurant with our visitors from out of town we love this place.To our surprise it was last day restaurant was closing down after 22 years of operation and great service to the customers.Oureselfs we have been going there for past 21 years food was always great especially sashimi.It is sad to see that situation on 135 a street contributed to this closure.
The owners are amazing and the food is authentic Japanese ????. All Fresh ???? I have been to Japan > 15 times, this food is as good as in Nagoya and Narita.
Definitely not trendy. Does not cater much to western takes on sushi rolls with tons of mayo. We've been going here for well over twenty years. When they first opened, there were staff from the Japanese embassy in attendance. The owner/sushi/sashimi chef is trained in Japan. Meals are simple, but properly prepared. Miso soup is traditional, with real fish broth (no tea bags with seasoning), real miso (not soy sauce, as we've had in a few places). We often have with wakame, in the soup. Prices are also reasonable. Most unfortunate that the needle exchange and homeless folks have taken over the street behind them. However, once inside, it's very clean and cosy. We will continue to go, as it's the closest to authentic Japanese we have enjoyed in Surrey; and we've been to Japan many times.
1. Try the gyoza, you'll definitely want another order. 2. The sushi is fantastic, make sure to indulge in some.
