I've been coming here the last couple of years ever since I've discovered this place. My wife is Afghan and I have acquired a taste for this type of cuisine. Whenever I get food from here it doesn't feel like I'm getting food at a restaurant that waters down its cuisine, it feels like I'm having someone's homemade food made with lots of love. A tiny place with two or three tables and a big take-out business. Menu is on the wall. drinks are in a cooler. Food is authentically Persian and delicious. . It's located in a seedy but improving neighbourhood (Whalley) and some of the customers are just a little scary ...but no trouble. Easy parking in front.
I had lunch with a co worker. The restaurant is small and not fancy but the lady who served us was very nice and the food was great. This is more of a take out place but it has a couple of tables.
Yesterday we hosted a party for an important birthday, with around 18 guests & we got Ali to cater some food. Ali personally delivered the hot & freshly made food & we tucked in to eat.We ordered the Salad Shirazi, which has fresh diced cucumber, tomatoes, red onions, mint, lemon juice & salt. Sounds simple, well we ran out of the salad as everyone had seconds. We also ordered 40 Mantu pieces. Mantu is like a ravioli, with meat inside & topped with either raisins or some other berry & a cream based sauce. All the Mantus were devoured by our guests. Finally we ordered a Saudi platter, which had 2 different types of rice & a big pile of mixed meats, which again was picked clean! We had (tasty) sushi delivered too, but lots of sushi was leftover, because the food from PKH was so awesome. Ali also brought us their fantastic house-made tzatziki as well as a spicier version of tzatziki. We highly recommend you consider getting food catered to your event from Ali & his sister Maria. If you have never had Middle Eastern fare, then go to their restaurant & try pretty much anything on their menu, as you will not be disappointed!
My better half & I were driving southbound on King George Blvd yesterday, saw their sign, when I recalled that we had eaten food from this restaurant's booth setup during Surrey's fantastic FusionFest, so I pulled over, parked the car & in we went for a bite of lunch.PKH is a small place, maybe 5 tables, but don't let that fool you, as the flavours inside are HUGE! The owners are a brother & sister team whose skills compliment each other. Maria cooks up great food, while Bahrooz is front of the house, where he explains all the foods & serves them to their clientele. We ordered 2 dishes to share. The 1st dish is called Bulanee, which is fresh leeks, scallions and spiced potatoes stuffed in thin dough and pan fried, served with a side of yogurt-mint sauce. Can I say, awesome! The 2nd dish we shared was a Lamb/Beef Donair Wrap, also very tasty. Bahrooz carved the meat off of the rotisserie skewer & threw it on the hot grill to sear the perfectly spiced meat, as he prepared the pita bread with lettuce, tomato, pickled parsnips (don't be afraid, try them), pickles, onions (not for me) & fantastic labneh, (a homemade Middle Eastern tzatziki). Our lunch was cooked to order, but it only took maybe 5 minutes before we got it, so well worth the brief wait. Our bill total was under $9! We were perfectly satiated with our 1st, but not last visit to Pacific Kabab Hut.Support a small family run eaterie & try this place.Cheers.
