El Caporal - Sunriver
El Caporal
Description
El Caporal serves approachable American-style Mexican in a casual village setting, with standout items like carne asada, tamales and a garlicky shrimp special alongside reliably excellent chips and salsa. Service is often warm and attentive though sometimes uneven, and food quality varies from excellent to bland or inconsistently plated. Prices are reasonable, parking is free, and limited vegetarian choices are labeled. Expect familiar, comforting dishes with occasional lapses in consistency and cleanliness.

Owner claimed I had the wrong business but I am verifying that I am 100% certain I have the correct business. There were 3 others in my party that agreed. Rather than learning from a negative review perhaps take a look and see if you can fix some things that may have slipped? Looks like you have a pattern of claiming that negative reviews are for the wrong business? My experience was:anything that had to be fried tasted the same because the oil was rancid, it was SO old and dirty it gave everything a horrible taste. Anything that didn’t have to be fried was flavorless. No seasoning on the veggies, in the beans, on the rice, it was all so bland. The beef was very tough in my enchilada (and also had no seasoning), and the lettuce on the side was soft and starting to turn color. The staff was great.
The Tacos Al Carbon is freakin' delicious and Their salsa has good flavor with plenty of heat!
Overall, it’s a decent restaurant, but I may opt for something different next time. It’s a typical American-style Mexican restaurant, similar to Azteca. While it’s not bad, I was expecting something a bit more distinctive for a nice resort setting. I’d give the food a 3-star rating; everything was good, but nothing really stood out—though I did love the salsa with the chips. The service deserves 5 stars—there’s nothing negative to say about the staff; they were friendly and incredibly helpful, going above and beyond. The atmosphere gets a 4-star rating; it’s a standard Azteca-style establishment, clean and comfortable. I’d also rate the prices at 4 stars, which are understandable given the location. If you’re looking for familiar American-Mexican cuisine, you’ll likely have a good experience here.
Waited for over 20 minutes after being seated and no one came to take an order, we then flagged someone down and still no one came
Perhaps it was because it was Sunday, but the service was quite underwhelming. No one came by to check on how we were enjoying the food. They did ask if we wanted more chips and salsa, though. On a positive note, the three tacos had excellent asada, and the black beans were superb.
