The ambience was lovely, the staff were friendly and accommodating. The karaoke was okay. The venue was small but charming.
I visited this restaurant on a Tuesday night and ended up joining in on a fun quiz. Since then, I have been coming back every Tuesday night for live microphone and busker nights. This pub has a great selection of beers, lagers, and wine by the glass or bottle. I particularly enjoyed the double maxim, a Sunderland brew, and Newcastle Brown Ale. The cozy atmosphere with two real fires is perfect for relaxing. Trish and Mick deserve full marks for maintaining the old village ambiance.

Situated in the picturesque village of Old Penshaw, The Monument is located at the base of Penshaw Hill near the iconic Penshaw Monument. The hill, a popular spot for walkers, joggers, and cyclists, overlooks the beautiful Herrington Country Park. So, if you find yourself in the area, stop by The Monument to relax, enjoy some friendly conversation, and of course, a good beer.
