We have eaten here twice and both times it was fantastic. i have had beef and the rest of the family all had Lamb. The potions were really generous and great value for money. Being Sunderland fans we loved the decor and all of the memorabilia. On our second visit we brought our grandparents as they have been fans since Roker park days and they also thought it was great. We will defiantly be back, possibly for a over... View all feedback.
What Steve B doesn't like about R:
Spent a night in Sunderland and fancied eating and drinking in the vicinity of the hotel in which we were staying, dug out the Good Beer Guide and discovered this bar . A promise of a full range of a local brewery's beers turned into a single offering on the bar which was a disappointment, on the upside the food we ordered was very good, the accompanying chips could have done with been a little warmer, that's always... I went here for a bar meal on Sunday night and it was terrible! When I placed a food order the waitress acted like it was the biggest inconvenience of her life. She did tell us there was a delay and there definitely was about 45 minutes and when it arrived the fried food was stone cold and horribly greasy and congealed, everything looked like it had been thrown together by amateurs, lukewarm, no dressing on the salad, we had to go looking for cutlery and no one came to ask if everything was ok (which it most definitely wasn't! There are much better restaurants up the road which I'll be going to from now on. One good point was the bar man was very polite and good at his job. I've given it two stars because of him and also because I've been before and it wasn't as bad previously.
So unorganised, sat waiting an hour for 1 starter then another 45 mins for our mains really frustrating. Food ok but puts you off when waiting for so long
We have dined and drank at this restaurant many times without any issues, so we decided to visit on a Sunday afternoon for lunch. After ordering drinks, we chose our meals from the menu and went to the bar to place our order. However, the waitress informed us that the chef was too busy to take any food orders at that time. She suggested that we could wait until the chef was less busy, but couldn't give us a specific timeframe. We found this very strange as the restaurant was unusually quiet, and it was also quite unprofessional to say this to a customer. We were disappointed that the staff refused to serve us food and allowed us to leave without eating. Sunday lunch is typically a busy time for restaurants, but this place did not seem interested in serving customers at all.
Decent choice of food we all needed a light meal, all had Jacket Potatoes with side salad, however everything seemed to be full of mayonnaise, some may like this but personally not keen but otherwise good service, and possibly not everything contains mayo on the menu.
You have to order the food in the bar but then they take it to the table. Every day they have a specialty. Very good Cheesy Chips Recommendable 100
