I had no idea that this bakery sold a wide variety of BC Organic whole grain flours - I had gone in for some baked treats and came out with so much more! I'm eating a carrot raising pumpkinseed Emmer cookie as I type this review - yum! We were just passing through and wanted some items to tide us over on the car ride home so we didn't stay for coffee, but next time we are in the area, we definitely will sit down and enjoy the eating area.
Although the multi-grain bread was good, the molasses ginger cookies were dry and the biggest surprise was at the check out. Credit cards are not accepted. If there is signage alerting shoppers to this policy, they aren't apparent. I stepped out of line to retrieve my debit card, stepped to the back of the check out line to be polite and when at the register was told they don't accept U.S. debit cards. With family in B.C., this isn't my first trip to the Okanagan. It was however, my last trip to True Grain Bread.
Great Bakery for local Organic Grain products. Many heirloom grains used in their bread. They mill their own flour onsite.
As soon as you walk in the wonderful aroma of freshly baked bread wafts over you. The eye is drawn to the display countewith a range of freshly baked sweet and savoury options. The coffee is great and there is both indoor and outdoor seating. The feeling you get is one of commitment by staff to great honest food. Call in foa coffee or to buy your daily bread.
The smells drew us in. The breads were enticing, I bought fabulous ginger cookies, carrot cookies, and a fresh raisin bread that was so fresh the staff apologized for not being able to slice it for me as it was too hot. My bread was brown bagged with a plastic bag slipped in for when i was able to slice it, to keep it fresh.
