Contribute FeedbackAt The Fox, the charm of a country pub shines through with its friendly staff, inviting atmosphere, and a mix of culinary experiences. While some patrons enjoyed delightful meals, like the praised duck and beef Wellington, others faced disappointment during their Sunday roast, citing undercooked vegetables and cold dishes. Quick service and welcoming staff were consistent highlights, even amidst busy crowds. Overall, while the pub undoubtedly has its strengths, such as creative cuisine and excellent real ales, guests are urged to manage expectations during peak times to fully enjoy what The Fox has to offer.
I popped into The Fox for a quick meal on 13/11/23. I was greeted warmly by Tim, the friendly manager, who also took my order. I always enjoy dining at The Fox because everyone there is so welcoming and pleasant. I opted for the Cajun chicken and salad (without the chips that normally come with the meal) and found it to be delicious and satisfying. Thank you, Tim!
The Sunday roast at this restaurant was disappointing. We had to wait over 30 minutes past our reservation time and the restaurant was very busy. The staff was lovely and apologetic, offering us a complimentary drink. However, when we finally received our meals, they were not worth the wait. The meat was okay, the vegetables were undercooked, and the roast potatoes were not crispy and hard to cut. The entire meal was cold. Despite the issues, we decided not to complain as we didn't want to wait longer and didn't think they could improve it without recooking everything. The staff seemed overworked and tried their best, but it's not worth it to have offers if the restaurant is overbooked and can't provide a decent meal. We won't be returning for the Sunday roast and will opt for the Wilford Bridge instead, as it offers a much better experience.
Sunday Roast?? Decor and staff pleasant. The Yorkshire pudding was fine. Beef tough, pork very fatty, turkey ok. But vegetables were cold and uncooked. The potatoes as mentioned on another review appeared to be frozen type that had been quickly dipped in deep fat fryer. Impossible to cut into with knife, but when eventually pulled apart were cold and hard. Inedible. Would not return.
Outstanding food. Each course was excellent. We had a mix of starters between 4 of us, then two of us had the duck, one the beef wellington and one the salmon. For dessert two had the cheesecake, one the sticky toffee pudding and one the crumble with ice cream. Wine was also good.
I always enjoy dining at one of the Deben inns, The Fox, when visiting my friend near Ipswich. The food is creative, well-cooked, and beautifully presented. The staff is friendly, helpful, and attentive without being intrusive. They also have a great selection of real ales on tap.
