Applebee's Grill - Sturgis
Applebee's Grill
Description
An uneven but often friendly neighborhood chain: dedicated servers and family-focused touches (kids' menu with activity booklet, affordable kids' meals) shine on busy nights, where seating can still be prompt. However, experiences vary — kitchen inconsistency, flat draft beer, missing sides and occasional poor orders undermine otherwise pleasant visits, and managerial brusqueness contributes to staff turnover. Worth trying for casual family dinners, but expect hit-or-miss food and consider calling ahead.

I had initially vowed not to return to this restaurant, but after being persuaded to give it another try, I was pleasantly surprised! Everything was exceptional—the food was delicious, the atmosphere was inviting, and the staff appeared to genuinely enjoy their work while providing excellent service.
Some of the servers at this restaurant are outstanding. I’ve witnessed them delivering excellent service to customers throughout their meals. However, the quality of the food tends to fluctuate depending on who is in the kitchen, resulting in inconsistency. I've also observed that the manager can be somewhat brusque with both customers and staff. It's not surprising that they frequently have openings for new servers—have you considered why that might be? There are many dedicated individuals eager to fill these positions. I think the corporate team should focus on enhancing management practices.
Very busy on a Friday night, but we were seated promptly. Waitress and service was wonderful. Food was great as well.Kid-friendliness: The kids menu is actually really great. Love that the activity booklet they get with crayons has their menu on the back and our 6 year olds checked off what they wanted as their main, side and drink. Pricing is actually amazing too, about 5.99 for a full kids meal.
The music was excessively loud, making it difficult to enjoy our meal or have a conversation.
