I could not recommend the windmill enough! the personal was so welcoming and friendly and went out of the way to check what was suitable for me vegan with a nut allergy. the vegan fish and chips were delicious! I also had three vanillaeis shovels for dessert. they also had other vegan options, with a falafel burger on their main menu, and a chocolate torte with vanilleeis as an additional vegan dessert option. What User doesn't like about The Windmill:
first, the building is beautiful and the staff is pleasant enough. but there are only 3 vegan options on the menu and one (the burger) is terrible. So I could not give it more than 2 stars for the 2 meals that were in order. not great, just ok. child parts are tiny compared to other places. View all feedback.
Beautiful traditional pub with good choice of ales. not a large number of dressed for vegan, so lost a star, but a decent choice of a vegan burger, a baked kartoffel a sandwich, an salat and even a torte with vegan gravy. couple of other options for lacto vegetarier like halloumi and chips. the prices are very reasonable. Apparently not so big a choice as a vegan caffe, but open at night. ideal if they are a vegan or vegetarian eating with omnivore friends or family, or if they want a good ale in a traditional pub instead of going into a restaurant.
With the intention to have vegan fish and chips and to find very disappointed, they had none. the only other choice was a falafel burger. unfortunately it was carved and boiled over. it also had a burger sauce on it that I doubted was vegan as my partner had the same sauce on her fleischburger. I also had vegan suppe for my starter, but the brot came with a puppenbutter on each disc.
The Windmill is an ancient pub with a lot of character but what makes it really worth a visit is it's one of the Greene King pubs that serves Vbites fish for their vegan fish and chips...and I can say that it is by far the best vegan fish and chips I've ever had. A salty fishy flavour with a good texture. Very enjoyable...and the chips are first class too. We also tried the falafel burger which was very good.
