The Merrie Lion - Stratford-on-Avon

I arrived late at night looking for a room having broken down on the M40. I’d been standing in the dark and getting cold by a busy motorway for a couple of hours before I found The Merrie Lion, and what a treat it was. The hospitality I received was incredible. The bar was lively, very friendly, beer well kept and my room was in an adjacent building, purpose built, and spotlessly clean with nice modern decor and a superbly comfortable bed. Thank you Merrie Lion.

A good menu with wide choices. Very friendly staff, efficient and discrete. Food arrived ahead of promise and excellent quality.

The Sunday roast at this restaurant was absolutely delicious. We tried both the roast beef and roast pork, and they were both cooked perfectly. The beef was tender and available in rare, medium, or well-done options. The pork loin came with tasty crackling. There was also a great variety of fresh vegetables to choose from. The service was friendly and attentive. I highly recommend this place.

Absolutely fantastic food!!!!! Best burger I've ever had and great draught ale. This place is a hidden gem!

We had another wonderful family meal at the Merrie Lion. We visit several times a year to meet with family and friends, including my disabled son, and the staff are always incredibly friendly and helpful. They always make sure to set us up at a quiet table and have a steak put aside for my son. The chef is fantastic and accommodates dietary needs with ease. This time, we even brought a puppy along, who was given some treats as well. Those who ordered the fish and chips raved about how excellent they were. I opted for the pie, and the pastry was perfect. The steak was tender and delicious, with the chips and fries being the best I've had anywhere. Everyone loved their desserts, especially the chocolate panacotta and sticky toffee pudding. I highly recommend the Merrie Lion and only wish we lived closer to visit more often!
