You see, after a very nice tour of the Cathedral, I asked our tour guide where he and his buddies usually drink, and he provided a very good recommendation of a bar called The Apostles . Although easy to find, that particular bar didn 't open till later in the day. So after browsing through the Marches de Noel in mid December, we did the next best thing which was to just play it by ear. Found a few other nice looking bars, but of course...they also didn 't open till later in the day. We were able to be a little cavalier because we didn 't have to find our way back to the river vessel; instead, we just had to meet at the post office by the Cathedral, so as long as we could still see the Cathedral, no problem. Um...I couldn 't replicate what I did to find this place; all I remember is that there was a small plaza with a few other restaurants nearby. Vague, I know. So all I know for sure is that this place is close to the Cathedral. Décor and Ambience: 3 out of 5 Nouveau chic. It 'd be like walking into any trendy part of Chicago, plopping in, and drinking/eating there. Wooden tables and benches line the bars, neat posters on the wall, a central rectangular bar in the middle and Top 40/House/Electronic music gently piped in during the earlier parts of the evening. Completely forgettable, but yet familiar. Customer Service: 4 out of 5 Listen, I had no problems even as a non native French speaker. But I will tell you this the French people are much more amenable to speaking English with you if they see that you 've made a REAL attempt at speaking French first. Bonjour, I want two beers will not cut it. I had no issues simply because I took so many years of French in high school and college that I could go in there and talk freely, order freely, and actually hold a conversation. When one of the guys started talking about the local sports teams, though I sort of lost it and had to recuse myself from the conversation. But, prior to ordering, I explained in succinct French that I didn 't have a Chip and PIN credit card, and if that would be ok? Anyway the point is this: I had no issues communicating and maybe they were nicer to me, but the two dudes working there were industrious French folks who had a good sense of humor. Selection of Beers: 5 out of 5 See my picture. One country 's regular beer is my heck yes! So yes, although Barbar is house beer over there, it was exciting for me to try. And of course you have to drink local, d 'ac? Have some Fischer it 's actually from the region. Price: 3.5 out of 5 Most of the beers were 11.5 Euro per liter, but you get a better price breakdown as you order more. So if you go for the gusto and order 5L at a time, you save about .2 Euro per liter. Ok, that 's really bad advice. If you want to try more of a variety, there 's no shame in ordering 25cl at a time. For those of you who are challenged at figuring out how much that is, it 's 250ml, or of a liter. Still having problems? It 's a little over 8 oz. Whatever, I 'm done talking to no one in particular since I enjoy being able to order easily in increments of 25cl, 50cl, and liters. For reference, 1 euro roughly 1.3 dollars, so 10 Euro 13 dollars. If you use your credit card, you get a better exchange rate, but remember that your issuing company will hit you with a foreign transaction fee that equals probably...3%. Just an FYI if you didn 't think ahead and get foreign currency from your stateside financial institution. Overall: 4 out of 5 3.9 overall, but bumps up to 4 with my traditional rounding. They actually open earlier in the day so you may be able to catch lunch there. Probably not the most authentic of Alsatian bier experiences, but nice nonetheless.

Anyway, this pub pretty good. It certainly had a nice atmosphere, even though I ended up sitting outside. A part of me wonders if this could have been an old medieval tavern as well, which is something Strasbourg seems to have a few of, except that the bar, and the building, do seem to come across as quite new. Anyway, despite the building being rather new, I still liked the pub.
