I have been there with a friend on a Saturday night since the tapas café we wanted to go to was busy and this was the closest place for Spanish food. Having been often in Spain and going out for tapas quite regularly in Europe,...I do know what to expect and what not from a tapas bar, so here is what I experienced: As you walk down the road to the Bar you might think it is closed, but that is only because all window blinds are closed, the Bar itself is open, you enter through a massive iron door which reminds one of a club rather than a restaurant. Once inside it is really more like a bar than a Tapas Bar. There are a few tables, but really close together, so don’t bring your best coats, because there is no place to put them. People passing by did drop our coats all the time. It was not their fault, but there is just no space. A girl from the neighboring table dropped our bottle of water trying to squeeze in between 2 tables. So after all go there if you wanna have fun and no for a relaxed dinner. Talking about drinks, I was quite surprised when I found out, that out of 10 wines of the menu, only 2 were from Spain and both 80 Tempranillo and 20 Syrah. So same wines from different regions, why not a little choice in grapes? The other 7 wines came from France and 1 from Chile. Why should I order a French wine in a Tapas Bar? I can understand to have a selection of wines on the menu, but not like that. We ordered a bottle of Perrier and got a bottle of Badoit, well, this is another odd thing. We then ordered some Tapas from the menu. They only have a small selection of hot and cold tapas. Be aware that the names don’t really match with their Spanish counterparts. But OK, one knows what they want to sell, in case one can still read the French translation to be sure. So we ordered the Manchego, some Patatas (fritas) and “Plancha de Sepia”. After 5 or 10 minutes everything arrived, so really quick service, although a little too fast in my opinion. The Manchego was cut in really thin slices, so it looked like a full plate but after all it is only a small amount of cheese. Because it was cut so thin, the chease got warm really quick and started to “sweat”. Manchego should be served in thicker slices and cold. The Patatas came with 4 different sauces, none of them a garlic sauce, it was a majonaise, some kind of other with sauce, a pepper sauce and a reddish sauce. The waiter explained but I already forgot the sauces, anyway, none of them was homemade, or at least they tasted like from the bottle. The fried potatoes were OK and tasty, although from the cut it looked like convenient food and not fresh cut potatoes. But the worst part is yet to come, the “Plancha de Sepia” which was not the sepia a la plancha one might expect, but some breaded and deep fried parts of squid, so not the sliced tubes, but these thicker parts cut into stripes of the sepia which is sold really cheap on fish markets in Spain. The Sepia was not crispy at all, instead it was soaked with oil. Maybe put into cold oil. I won’t go there again, but for a party and a beer it might be a good location. For a dinner you will find better eateries and restaurants around.
