What User doesn't like about Pointing Dog:
Unfortunately, the main issue we faced during our visit was the long wait. It took over 40 minutes from our arrival to receive our meals, and we had to ask to place our order. Even dessert took a while to arrive, and the sticky toffee pudding was cold with a disappointing side of "caramelized banana." This caused restlessness and hunger in the children.

We discovered this restaurant by chance while looking for a place to have Sunday dinner. The food was delicious and the atmosphere was fantastic. We were pleased to find a dog-friendly area in the pub, so we can now bring our friends and family with dogs in the future. The manager was very accommodating and found us a table even though we didn't have a reservation. The prices were slightly higher than a typical chain pub, but it was definitely worth it.
Very impressed. All servers were excellent. Chloe was our main hostess and she was polite, attentive and sweet. We were in the room to the left of front door and it was really a bit too hot. Not a complaint as such but you could save yourselves a fortune by turning the heat down just a bit!
Just under new management of JWLees,so decided to call in on Saturday night. Beautiful place, but it seemed more geared up for food than just a drinking establishment, and the drinks were on the expensive side-but I'd definitely recommend the stout because it was lovely Unfortunately, it was really quiet when we called in, so not much atmosphere, which is a shame, and despite having 3 bar staff on,2 of them seemed more interested in having a chat than serving. While we were there, we bumped into friends who'd just had a meal, and they were very impressed, so we'll definitely go back and try the food.
The Pointing Dog is in a great location with a spacious interior and exterior for drinking and dining . We visited on Sunday 16th July 2 days after it reopened under the new ownership of JWLees . There were many meals in the menu we could’ve chosen but decided to go for the Sunday lunch for 2 sharing platter . Our son chose Chicken Chasseur . The meals were all delicious the sharing platter was huge with 3 meats and all the trimmings. Our waitress Lauren was lovely and attended to us promptly when we realised we had not been given the pigs in blankets which she duly fetched for us . Neither my husband or son are fans of the house beer and If we were to make one suggestion it would be to offer a couple more guest lagers/beers . Happy customers who look forward visiting again in the future
Staff were clearly trying their best, but the food wasn’t good at all. It can’t be a trained chef in the kitchen. We had fish and chips. Chips were largely uncooked frozen chips, and the fish was undercooked with soggy batter. For the price it wasn’t the best. Suggest just going for drinks as it’s a nice place to sit and enjoy a pint.
