What User doesn't like about The Flying Elk:
I used to eat at the flying elk al'most every second week until a couple of years ago. I loved the place, its cozy atmosphere and the impeccable food quality. I went back with high expectations but unfortunately they were not met, now a lot of things seem to have changed. I ordered a schnitzel and it was not even close to the quality that it used to be. The dish was well presented but the meat was somehow hard and th... View all feedback.
There is no aspekt that you could criticize on this site. the waiters are friendly, eating is exceptional (especially the carving that comes from an Austrian is highly praised).
Our group tried an array of appetizers and mains. We couldn't say enough about how great they were. The onion ring is fabulous and one is all you need. The seared scallops were amazing and the Umami sandwich was awesome! Great service and good craft...beers. Reserve a few weeks in advance. We went in February and were lucky to get a table.
We were a group of eight , we didn’t like the table that they had prepared for us, they did their best to please us , they were very polite, the food was very good, especially the fish dishes and we had a very good...time
We visited the Flying Elk this evening with a group of ten people. We had a good table, and the waiters were attent and nice. Still, my score is low because I didn't like the food. I tried some chicken wings, but didn't like...the taste of them. I tried some kind of chips, and while others of the group did like them, I personally didn't. There was some truffle popcorn: I didn't like that. My main course was the Arctic fish. It looked nice and was well prepared. But I discovered this wasn't my cup of tea: I didn't like it that much. Ok, too bad for me, but the rest of the table had similar experiences: A lot of people were complaining about how salty all the food was. Some people didn't finish their dishes because of that. One person almost had to puke at the toilet, but prevented that by going outside and get some fresh air. I personally didn't trust the food anymore, so I didn't order any desert. But the people who did, complained about it. One person ordered ice cream, but due to the thick consistency she didn't like it, and passed it on until the third person trying it liked it enough to finish it. One person ordering a schnitzel was really surprised that there were no side dishes with it: she just got the schnitzel, and that's it. Be aware of that when you order.
However, it doesn't really seem to be the same glow in the restaurant, whether it be the food or the ambiance. New owners do quietly and have more tried to manage without adding anything new.
