The Settle Inn
Description
Nestled under the shadow of Stirling Castle, this charming pub has been a welcoming haven since 1733. Known for its historic atmosphere, it exudes warmth with a log fire and a friendly vibe. The pub features an excellent selection of local beers and ales, often changing, catering to a diverse clientele from students to locals and tourists alike. While food options are limited to crisps and nuts, the focus here is on camaraderie and lively banter. A cosy, traditional pub with a working fireplace, great bar selection and excellent banter from staff and visitors alike. Dog friendly as well. One of my all-time favourite pubs in Scotland.
Since 1733, this pub has been serving beers and other local and national spirits. As its name suggests, it was originally created as an inn with a very specific purpose. It is important to note that this pub is located on a hill that used to lead directly to Stirling Castle, which explains its fame and continued existence. If we imagine removing most of the surrounding buildings that now surround what was once the inn, we can see that it was an ideal location for many travelers who came here for business or to appear before the court of the castle for legal matters. Today, it is the oldest public establishment in Stirling and still remains a popular spot for locals. The food may not be exceptional, but the atmosphere is wholesome, exceptional, and steeped in history. The beers are some of the best in the area, living up to their name and reputation.
