In rural Scotland in a very small community a perfect hide out with 6 very comfortable and clean rooms with perfect breakfast and dinner possibilities and a very friendly and cooperative staff. Such a relief and difference from other Inn’s. Highly recommended View all feedback.
What Wayne Campbell doesn't like about The Black Bull:
An expensive disappointment, the much publicised roast dinner was sparse, dry meat, the only veg were 2/3 carrots/parsnips, dry roast potatoes, poor effort of a Yorkshire pudding, waiting staff inexperienced and unhelpful, we’ve tried before and the food/service has just not improved, other much friendlier pubs nearby with great food/craic, this is just not one of them View all feedback.

We went as we're staying in the area and had heard good things. Overall very happy with our experience with a nice atmosphere and decor. The staff were very friendly. My only slight gripe is that I didn't quite get what I asked for in that o asked for my steak medium rare and it was medium well, so quite far from my preference. I also asked for apple tart with cream and was given ice cream. Neither of these were massive issues just a slight annoyance as the correct orders were on our receipt but had not been followed. Mind, I didn't mention anything at the time so there was no opportunity for the establishment to correct. I didn't mention this because despite being slightly incorrect, the food was still delicious. The steak was very good and would have been amazing if cooked less. The apple tart was loaded with sweet cinnamon and was really delicious.
Food was absolutely disgusting, I ordered macaroni (which I would say is an easy meal for a chef to make) all it tasted of was mustard couldn’t even taste the cheese. I went back and ordered a different meal as it was that bad and the second meal was just as disgusting so I didn’t eat either! The older woman behind the bar was incredibly rude and ignorant, she actually bullied the young girl and spoke to her like she was a bit of dirt. The young girl was kind and helpful unlike the older woman. Whoever owns this pub should genuinely be embarrassed and should just shut the doors.
Brilliant food and very tasty chef specials! Great service and lovely evening had. Will be back soon to try more on the menu!
Booked in for an Itison overnight stay which included full breakfast, chocolates and a welcome drink. From the minute we walked through the front doors of the hotel we felt so at home the staff are wonderful nothing too much bother and make you so welcome. Room lovely boutique style with an amazing bathroom and great shower. Bar dog friendly with a warming fire in the hearth. Good choice of drinks and cocktails. Some places you go to you feel a bit of an outsider especially if it is a small village. This place is the opposite as it is community run the staff and locals actually care about the service and impression they give to visitors. Restaurant a lovely set out room tables not too close together. Ask for a table overlooking the countryside the views are amazing ! Not a huge menu but something to cater for all tastes. I was especially impressed that you can get a smaller portion of some meals. I had the smaller steak pie, potatoes and veg and it was more than ample for me. My hubby had the beef burger which he said was really tasty. We finished off with the cheeseboard for one when it came I told the waitress we only wanted to share and didn’t want the cheeseboard for two she said “ that is the board for one” wow what an amount and choice brilliant value ! Would definitely recommend the Black Bull, Gartmore !
