The Marquis of Granby is on North Road and is probably about a 15 minute walk from the Old Town area of Stevenage and about 5 minutes from Lister Hospital. It is a nice little pub with a car park and I have been there a couple of times. The staff have always been friendly and polite. Recently I had some food there and it was very good. What Nelgumford doesn't like about The Granby:

As a group of 15-20 people sitting in the garden, we felt unwelcome by the staff. One member overheard a staff member express disappointment about us being there and delaying her plans to go home. The lack of proper lighting in the garden made it difficult to enjoy our evening, and when we asked for the hanging lights to be turned on, we were told they were not functional. To add to the disappointment, my partner was informed that the pub was closing when they went to get another drink around 9:30-10pm. The last orders bell was not rung, and it seemed like only friends of the staff were allowed to stay late. Overall, the attitude of the staff was discouraging and made us feel like a burden. Despite spending a significant amount of money, we did not feel valued as customers. The potential of the garden was overshadowed by the neglected state of the furniture and the lack of maintenance. A rusty screw even fell out of a bench when I sat down. I would not recommend rushing back to this establishment.

They do not offer the full menu that is advertised on their website, only providing a limited selection of less appealing options. They also only accept cash, despite the preferences of their customers. The only positive aspect is that it is easy to secure a table, likely because many people are not returning after their first visit.
I visited the restaurant today. The staff at the bar were rude and made me wait to be served, even though there was no one else there. One staff member had to ask me three times what mixer I wanted.
The menu on the website is not the menu in the pub. The refusal to take cash is inconvenient and disrespectful. The massive roadworks on the road outside were not their fault. The car park could be better laid out. The letterbox out the front is handy if you need to post a letter. The glove we lost in there never turned up. The NHS staff discount is kind though.
I was at the pub with my family last night at around 5:30 and the man behind the bar was very rude when taking our orders and was rudely spoken to us. I am not happy with this. I understand that everyone has their bad days but they shouldn’t take it out on the customers. You should leave your personal life at the door when coming into work. You should present all happy and bubbly. As I know working in the hospitality industry myself. I will not be returning back after this visit as I’m it happy about the way I was spoken to.
