However, the real highlight was undoubtedly the food. The chef is well-known for his focus on flavor and clear passion for culinary arts. The lamb was cooked to perfection, and the gravy was on par with what I've had in top-notch restaurants. Even the onion rings were crispy, and the roasted tomato soup was bursting with flavor, showcasing a complexity achieved only by someone who truly understands how to create delicious layers in their dishes. We also appreciated that the kitchen stayed open for us, despite our arrival being quite close to 2 PM. Plus, it’s dog-friendly, which is a nice touch!
Wow, what a fantastic pub! The staff are lovely, the menu is impressive, and the food is absolutely delicious. The bao buns are a must-try, and the fish and chips are enormous and incredibly fresh. The outdoor tent area is really cool, offering plenty of space both inside and outside. Highly recommend!
I had a wonderful Christmas dinner experience. The food was excellent, with delightful snacks already on the table when we arrived. The ambience was both traditional and warm, creating a lovely atmosphere. We were comfortably seated next to the log fire, which added to the charm of the evening. This pub truly exceeded my expectations, and I highly recommend it. Thank you for providing such a memorable Christmas experience that we'll cherish.
Honestly, what a place best countryside pub in reading can not recommend this place enough! affordable! delicious! amazing staff! cool dogs! huge back pub garden! simple parking! a dream
I came here about 3 months ago and couldn’t believe that they actually cooked my steak rare. It was genuinely the best steak I’ve had in the UK. I came back tonight and was in disbelief that my steak was as perfect as it was before and even better when sat by the gigantic fire. Love! I’ll be back.
Nestled in a picturesque setting, this charming pub offers a warm atmosphere complemented by friendly service and a diverse menu. Diners rave about the delicious staples, such as the fish and chips and unique bao buns, while others appreciate the welcoming ambiance, particularly near the cozy fires. However, some guests have voiced concerns about the inconsistency of menu items, particularly regarding gluten-free options and limited availability of certain dishes. Despite occasional downfalls, the pub’s modern upgrades and local ale selection contribute to its appeal, making it a noteworthy destination for both casual meals and special gatherings.

A very happy afternoon by the fire and we were looked after beautifully.
I was disappointed to discover that the pub could only provide two pork roast lunches, even though three people in our group wanted pork. The alternative beef roast was quite tough as well. Additionally, there was a problem with the gluten-free roast option not matching the description on the menu.
Absolutely lovely! The Sunday roast was fantastic, making it a great spot for families. The service was friendly and welcoming as well.
Was surprised to walk in to see a super large TV screen in the beautiful old pub, the land lady was super lovely, service was good and food was OK, nothing blew my mind bit was good pub grub. Disappointing was watching all the drunks around the bar watching all day sport with feet on the chairs , not great when you walk into a beautiful old pub. Overall we were happy with the meal, ambulance was disappointing due to all the drunks with feet over chairs that people are about to sit on.
Amazing pub with a brilliant atmosphere! Food and drinks were great as was the attentive service and super lovely landlady. At the time of our visit the premises was clean, tidy and well kept. It’s so great to find a traditional country pub that can cater to visiting customers whilst retaining such a great atmosphere with the locals who were very friendly! The bar areas were not intruding on the dining however, we dined in the well decorated and warm outside teepee area which was a unique experience in itself. Will definitely be back soon! Thank you.
