North Forest Cafe - Standish
North Forest Cafe
Description
In the bustling culinary scene, one restaurant stands out as a mixed bag of experiences. While some patrons lament the decline in food quality and service—especially regarding pricing and portion sizes—others celebrate the excellent, home-cooked meals and friendly staff. Staples like the Po' Boy and generous sandwiches impress many, making this place a valued pit stop for locals. Though it operates on a cash-only basis and has early closing hours, its cozy, mom-and-pop vibe fosters a sense of community. Ultimately, while some criticize its shortcomings, others cherish it as an integral part of the local dining landscape.

I understand why nobody visits this place anymore. The food quality has declined, and they can't seem to retain a chef. However, the biggest issue is the pricing. They charge $2.00 for a tablespoon of coleslaw, and I’m not exaggerating! I used to go there frequently, but not anymore. This isn't a high-end restaurant; it's just a little hole-in-the-wall dive. I don't mind paying a premium for quality food with decent portion sizes, but this is simply excessive. I wouldn’t recommend it.
I really like this place. Every time I get to the standish, try to do it here. They close early and serve breakfast. In large portions and reasonable prices. It's a mom and pop café. If you want to know the local gossip and where the fish are. This is your place.
The staff here is fantastic, and the food is excellent! Although we've only been a few times, we've never been let down. The team treats every customer with the same level of attention, unlike other places in the city that seem to prioritize their regulars. We absolutely love this restaurant!
