Despite a sad dining experience with issues like being seated in an empty restaurant and receiving poor service, the food quality was excellent. With funky decor and generous portions at affordable prices, the restaurant offers dishes like Kingfish, quail, pork belly, and pumpkin risotto. The new owners have revitalized the restaurant, creating a warm and inviting atmosphere. Overall, Tolarno is a fantastic local find with outstanding service, mouth-watering food, and a promise of return visits from satisfied customers.
Tolarno is a very good restaurant, excellent food and service
A fairly sad dining experience overall. Restaurant was TOTALLY empty at on a Saturday night.Waiter greeted us with sorry we've run out of bread and then offered us some nonalcoholic caffeinated drinks as a gesture of good will. There was a massive loaf of bread on a table behind us. Weird. There was a doorbell ringing periodically during the meal which was very annoying.Despite this, the food was actually excellent and it is a terrible shame that noone else was there to create even a hint of ambience. The owner needs to do some serious marketing to keep this venture going
I absolutely enjoyed my time at this restaurant on Fitzroy Street! It was a fantastic discovery!
We dined at this restaurant with a 50% discount through Dimmi and had an amazing experience! The service was friendly and cheerful. We particularly enjoyed the house-made bread that started our meal (we may have cheekily asked for refills three times, and they happily obliged!). The Kingfish dish had lovely flavors with grapefruit, although the crunchy celery texture felt a bit out of place. The standout small dish was the quail on top of a parsnip "porridge", which was incredibly creamy. The pork belly was tender and served in a generous portion. Unfortunately, our order for the recommended lamb shoulder was forgotten, but they went above and beyond by comping the dish due to the delay. The pumpkin and goat cheese risotto had great flavor, although it was missing the hazelnut crunch mentioned on the menu. Despite this, we still enjoyed the dish. For the quality of food we received for under $50 for two people, we couldn't complain. The restaurant has funky decor and serves delicious, high-quality food. We plan on returning to try the Mulloway and fresh pasta next time.
Tolarno, a fantastic local find, has been revitalized by new owners Lachie and John. The decor is stunning, creating a cozy and welcoming atmosphere. On top of that, the food is top-notch! Our group couldn't decide on just one dish, so we tried a variety of options including pumpkin risotto, pork belly, sirloin, Mulloway fillet, and eggplant ragu, all of which were superb. We will definitely be returning to Tolarno soon!
