The fish and chips were fantastic. Not greasy. Everything was home made (tartar sauce, coleslaw). Menu is EXCELLENT value for what you are being paid. The service is incredible. Same servers for 30 years! Says something about the was they treat their employees! It's a feel good, local, clean, family place. Can't wait to return. View all feedback.
What Rita Howe doesn't like about The Smiling Fish:
Ordered blackened cajun fish, Was very dry ate one of three pieces, fries were soggy. Asked if i wanted a take out container when i said no , nothing more said. Thought with 2/3 of my meal still on plate i should have been asked if everything was ok. I wouldnt have complained, i placed the order, but would be nice to be asked. View all feedback.
Recommended to come by colleagueI wasn't that impressed with my order but I will be willing to give it another try.
We visited for the first time recently and we were a little sceptical after walking in, but were there on the recommendation of a close friend and thought we'd give it a try. It looks a little deceiving but once the food arrived there was no question that the recommendation was spot on. The seafood chowder was as good as any we had in the east coast and the halibut was just about as good as we'd ever had. The owner came out and talked with us and made us feel appreciated. It was a fantastic meal, don't let the dated décor stop you from enjoying the best fish and chips you'll have.

Sherri always remembers everyone with her very welcoming smile! Atmosphere certainly not romantic but fish awesome!
Called ahead for take-out, which they said would be ready in one hour- which is a bit long, but manageable if they are busy. When I arrived at the restaurant, exactly 3 minutes early from the specified pickup time, I proceeded to wait another 1 hour and 6 minutes for my (not large) order. I would have left, but I paid for it when I arrived (which I even provided a generous tip), and they kept saying "it will be right out!!".It was a combined 2 hours and 3 minutes from the time I placed the order, until I received it!! This is fried fish & chips, folks!By the time I got home, it was past my young kids bedtime, but they still needed to eat. This is no exaggeration. Furthermore, there was no apology, it just felt like we were a complete inconvenience to person who I presume is the owner. I was FUMING mad leaving... I will never, never, ever order from there again. Never. Just in case I wasn't clear: never, ever. Ever.
