Contribute FeedbackSt. Catherine's Shawarma Square offers a variety of flavors from authentic shawarma to flavorful dishes. Despite some negative experiences with customer service and cleanliness, the food itself is raved about. Diners can enjoy unique dishes prepared with care, friendly greetings upon entry, and the promise of a delicious meal. With options for both meat lovers and vegans, this restaurant stands out for its diverse offerings. The rotating meat spit adds an element of authenticity to an already flavorful meal. For those seeking a taste of the Middle East in St. Catherine's, Shawarma Square is the place to go.
I love ordering from here because both guys who work the kitchen make very authentic food however they make it just slightly different than the other guys, this isn't McDonalds where every burger tastes the exact same. Every plate and wrap I get is like a little piece of art and is always made perfect to my liking yet a little bit different. They have no problem adding extra or taking something off (Love lettuce/ don't love red cabbage.) Everytime I walk in, they always say hello my friend, it makes you feel remembered and adds a friendly atmoshphere. When you walk in, the place doesn't look like much but don't let appearances fool you because when you think about the food afterwards your mouth will water. It may be a little intimidating trying to order something new but my suggestion is the beef plate, the portions are huge and its like a giant salad but with meat and rice and sauces to your liking just creamy garlic and alot of hot sauce for me and don't forget the Feta!! Vegan? no problem cause the Falafel is to die for! yum. I've had beef shwarma all over the place, donairs in Port Dalhousie but the Yaman Plus is the place to go if you want to be impressed with what these guys do with simple ingridients.
First off the listing is inaccurate, they are now located at 185 Queenston St, St. Catharines, ON L2R 3A3 adjacent to Yaman Plus convenience store. The restaurant is ran by two guys that are always glad to see you, they remember my preferred toppings without having to ask and their prices are always reasonable with quick, friendly service. Great specials and authentic Arabic cuisine, directly across from the old hospital its a bit out of the way but if you happen to be passing by give them a try (I recommend Shish Tawooq & a cheese pie !)
It was quite different of a set up the meats are cooked on a stand up rotating spit, the meats were seasoned and stacked on this metal rod, and chipped off as needed for a serving portion, a different kind of rice is served with the meal, I really enjoyed the flavor, also the selection of salad was put together nicely, served with hummas and a creamy garlic dipping sauce for the pita chips.
I came into St Catherine's and found that this was the only restaurant that was open which suited my dietary needs. I then looked it up online to see fairly good reviews. Going there though, was a complete joke! We were a group of 8,...More
I love shawarma and when I saw this place I was very interested to try it. I ordered a chicken shawarma wrap and while I sat and waited for them to prepare it I noticed the "cook" shaking a spice into the grilling meat, repeatedly, about 25-30 times, I am not kidding, it was a silver cannister so I could not see what it was. I took my wrap out to the car and ate it there and it tasted pretty good, not too salty, lots of flavour, but 5 minutes after finishing the unmistakable taste of garlic powder was lingering in my mouth for a long time. So THAT'S what he was shaking so much! It was not terrible but I won't go back anytime soon.
