Prices are deemed high by some considering the competitors in town, but others believe the quality justifies the cost. Food was excellent. Pasta was perfectly cooked, with authentic, tasty ingredients, and generous portions.Burrata with parma ham was lovely and fresh tasty, with plenty of ham, and pizza was nice too.Staff were friendly and attentive
I have tried most of the restaurants in St Albans and this was my first time at Locanda Bagutta. We were originally seated in the rear area but the table was so close to another couple we were moved into the more open bit of the restaurant which had no real ambience. After being given menus we then waited for minutes to order drinks. Food was nice however very overpriced, a starter to share, mains, one beer and very small glasses of wine came to once the service charge was automatically added. Overall very underwhelmed with the whole experience far better Italian restaurants in St Albans for half the price. I will not be returning
Good food, nice place, very helpful waitress overall a good experience and I’ll be back
Prices look expensive for Italian fare but the quality is top notch. As the food is freshly cooked don't expect rapid service. We had baked aubergine, squid starters, followed by tagliatelle bolognese and penne pesto. All were as good a versions as I have had and we have travelled widely in Italy. A wide range of wine is available by the glass. Tellingly on the adjoining table was a large group of Italians. Yes you can get cheaper Italian food in St Albans but not at this quality level. The ambience was nice and cosy too. Will definitely return
On the Saturday before Christmas, St Albans was heaving ... but there were only two other tables occupied when we arrived at the restaurant at and one of those was finishing their meal. We were in the back room, which didn't have he greatest of decors or ambience. However, the food was very good, though I thought the menu was rather uninspiring, but my main problem was with the pricing. for a bowl of pasta and bean soup ... similar for melon and ham...? The main courses were around which for a vegetarian pasta seems rather steep. I think that when there are so many good restaurants in St Albans, you have to be careful that you don't price yourself out of the market, and suspect this was the reason the restaurant was so quiet. Not sure I would go back for all these reasons
