Ridiculously small portions of single pie and mash. A TOTAL RIP OFF!!!! We eat pie and mash in London regularly but this place was the WORST PIE MASH WE HAVE EVER HAD IN 30 YEARS OF EATING PIE MASH AS LONDONERS!!! The pies were very small, the mash had lots of bits and ‘black eyes’ in it from the potato. It was ‘grainy’ where there was a lack of seasoning or butter etc. The liquor was like water and didn’t look anything like liquor. We had to purchase double pies double mash each to get a proper size portion as the single pie and mash was a joke! Even my 6 year old was still hungry after. In addition the place was dirty with tables empty with dirty plates and rubbish. We had to ask staff to clear the table. ROBINS SOUTHEND ON SEA YOU NEED TO STEP IT UP! It was Halloween Parade day and this place was half empty on a Saturday afternoon so clearly something is very wrong here. We WOULD DEFINITELU NOT RECOMMEND THIS PLACE, PORTIONS ARE RIDICULOYSLY TINY AND IT TASTED BLAND WITH LIQUOR THAT WAS LIKE DIRTY WATER. How embarrassing serving this to customers. £4.50 for a tiny pie liquor and £9.00 FOR DOUBLE DOUBLE! A COMPLETE RIP OFF. NEVER AGAIN!!!!!!!!!!! AVOID THIS PLACE LIKE THE PLAGUE!
I popped into Southend and was not aware of Robins Pie and Mash as they are in a side street. I remember Robins from the 70's when I use to live in East Ham. On entry the shop is super clean, the young lady was constantly cleaning down surfaces. The ambience was that of a typical pie and mash shop, wooden benches, Formica tables, it evoked many memories. The staff were incredibly friendly and a special mention to Alfie who was a top fella. Sorry I didn’t know the young ladies name but she was an asset to the shop. I ordered 2 pies and one mash with gravy and a can of coke. It all came to £8 which was not out of the way for a decent dinner. The pies and mash was served up and I was not disappointed. The pastry was crisp and light, the filling was quality mince and the gravy was plentiful. It was all so tasty I even ordered a takeaway after my meal to take home to the wife with a portion of Liquor. I will definitely return when I am in Southend, this should not be missed.
