What lloydm972 doesn't like about Bayleaf Kitchen:
Good Indian restaurant in the heart of Southampton but not as great as some of their incredible competitors. I found the Duck Tikka tandoori mediocre, it had pieces of bone/grizzle and overall not very exciting. My main, the Calcutta Monkfish was much better. Large pieces of monkfish in a flavorful sauce. I also found the piratha nice. Overall a good meal but not memorable. View all feedback.
We had an excellent dining experience at the Bayleaf. My family and I visited for the first time in November. Initially unsure upon entering, we were pleasantly surprised when escorted to the back of the restaurant. The food was lovely, the service was great, and we thoroughly enjoyed our meal.
I visited this restaurant on September 20th after a rainy day at the Southampton Boat Show. The rain was still coming down hard when I entered, with some water even dripping through the roof. I ordered a king prawn biryani with a side of vegetable curry, poppadoms, and a pint of Cobra for a total of £22.15, which I found to be reasonable. The meal was delicious, although I felt that the king prawns were on the smaller side. The restaurant was clean and well-kept, with nice bathrooms in the basement. However, the stairs leading down were steep and narrow, so be careful. Overall, I would recommend this restaurant as it is located in a central position on the main High Street.
After reading the reviews, my family and I went to this restaurant to celebrate a birthday. The atmosphere was pleasant, although there were quieter tables inside that we could have been seated at. Instead, we were placed at the front between two other groups. As Indians ourselves, we were hoping for more authentic food, but it had been tailored to the British palate. Some dishes like the Papdi chat and Dal Makhni were tasty, but others fell short. The service was efficient and quick, despite it being a busy evening. Overall, it was a decent experience with good food and service, but not if you are seeking traditional Indian cuisine.
Had a table for two here whilst stopping in Southampton pre cruise. What a find. For a city centre restaurant this place takes some beating. Quality of food was fantastic, very attentive service and a very reasonable price. Place was packed so obviously very popular. Luckily we had booked in advance. Would definitely return when in the area.
Had a lovely meal here at the weekend. Excellent food great service. Owner very attentive. Would highly recommend. Thankyou will definitely go back.
