Visited this restaurant many times before and you always find a spot here even during big events when the city is jam packed w/ revellers visiting the Melbourne cup for example. (Perfect people watching place) Helicopters can drown out thr conversation (seated outside) but this...gives the place an international feel though. What Lavina Schroeder doesn't like about Akachochin:
this place gets 3/5 of me because I had a special 50% discount on thefork. at full price it is probably a 2/5 for me. Japanese restaurant at the harbour. most dishes were good except sushi. the fish was fresh, but. the rice fell apart, suggesting that the kitchen had no good sushi cook. service was also incredibly slow to come for eating. what should have been a pretty fast lunch meal for more than 2 hours. if there... We visited this restaurant 2 years ago when we came down watched Australia open. The food was very good back then and just downstairs from our hotel. However, we found they have changed their menu significantly this time. A Lot of their traditional Japanese food became not as good as before and no longer in their menu. Especially their seafood tempura tastes like an ordinary fish and chips we had in another western restaurant which was a bit disappointed to us. Also their Sushi wasn't as good as before. I think they probably try to meet the western taste a bit too much and lost their originality. Beef tataki was one of the few nice dish still on their menu. In terms of the service, we have to asked the waitress twice before she remember our drinks order.
Walking in hungry and hangry after some DFO shopping we were pleased with quick service and waiters who knew the menu to help us in a hungry brain decision making! Fish cakes, pork fried things, were a hit and the prawn and snap pea stir fry hit the spot! Nice vibe but felt strange being in a near empty restaurant at 10pm and staff packing up- look forward to the area growing.
We were at an event at the Exhibition Centre and wanted a late lunch that wasn't too heavy. We were impressed with the cuisine and definitely will come back for longer visit next time.
I wrote in to the restaurant, and received a very nonchalant response. I have to give an honest review of this restaurant and let people know that it's not worth it, at all. The food was very disappointing, and a salad with no dressing took 50 minutes to arrive. The sushi was comparable to the take out sushi from the takeout counter at the supermarket, and lacked effort. I strongly discourage visiting this establishment. After giving my feedback, the staff even rolled her eyes at me. So disappointing really :(
We had dinner here on a Friday night. The place was reasonably full but there was no need for reservation. The service was very friendly and knowledgeable. The food was delicious, thee prices reasonable, the serves however on the smaller side, so we had to order more. a 15$ meat dish (grilled pork belly) is a starter size dish. Very nice lamb shank, souls, mushroom salad. Big list of Sake and Japanese beers.
